Six decades after Virginia Woolf's death, landscape designer Jo Bellamy has come to Sissinghurst Castle for two reasons: to study the celebrated White Garden created by Woolfs lover Vita Sackville-West and to recover from the terrible wound of her grandfathers unexplained suicide. In the shadow of one of England's most famous castles, Jo makes a shocking find: Woolfs last diary, its first entry dated the day after she allegedly killed herself.

This is a good story, but the chase is so thin that it gets annoying along with the terrible try at Britishisms. The language is just off, as if the writer is using dialogue she thinks is common but is far from it.

Ok, if you have nothing better to do on a wet weekend.

The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If they enjoyed a spooky story yes, there were real moments of tension in this book and listening at night really gave me pause.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The father. I love belligerent, ignorant characters that get their just desserts.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who enjoys a very slow start and a story that moves back and forth between settings.

What could John Harwood have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I wouldn't even begin to advice. I've enjoyed this other books. Perhaps the book is better in the printed form than the audio

What three words best describe Rosalyn Landor’s performance?

    boring, boring, boring

When linguist Andrew Dennison is yanked from his bed by the Secret Service and taken to a top secret facility in the desert, he has no idea he’s been brought there to translate the words of an ancient demon. He joins pretty but cold veterinarian Sun Jones, eccentric molecular biologist Dr. Frank Belgium, and a hodge-podge of religious, military, and science personnel to try and figure out if the creature is, indeed, Satan. But things quickly go bad, and very soon Andy isn’t just fighting for his life, but the lives of everyone on earth.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Long after I should have been asleep I was still listening to this audiobook and that doesn't often happen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Frank Belgium. His character arc was excellent and he added the all important bit of humour that broke the tension at the right moments.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I would. The only voice that annoyed me was Race. I could have done with out so much gravel. The voice of Bud was brilliant.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Supernaturals to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

The suspense and the weaving of the story

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I didn't enjoy the performance very much. The various accents and characters voices came and went and changed, making it confusing. I did enjoy the special effects of the supernatural elements. Very creepy when listening late at night, but the narrator's voice became annoying by the end.

If you could rename The Supernaturals, what would you call it?

    Summer Place

    Any additional comments?

I would read this author again.

Here for the first time is a complete history of the world, from the beginning of time to the present day, based on the beliefs and writings of the secret societies. From the esoteric account of the evolution of the species to the occult roots of science, from the secrets of the Flood to the esoteric motives behind American foreign policy, here is a narrative history that shows the basic facts of human existence on this planet can be viewed from a very different angle.

Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

What other book might you compare The Tale of Halcyon Crane to and why?

The Thirtieth Tale. Anything by Kate Morton.

What about Cassandra Campbell???s performance did you like?

Her voice is even and fluctuates well with the rise and fall of the story

What would have made The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year better?

The narrator is beyond annoying. Her voice is shrill most of the time.

What was most disappointing about Sue Townsend???s story?

I couldn't concentrate on the story at all. The voice was distracting.

How could the performance have been better?

I can only imagine another narrator would have improved the telling. It's hard to know where to start in fixing this.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger, frustration and annoyance. I had to turn it off.

    Any additional comments?

It's a shame that the constant yelling in this book and the narration has taken away from what I think might have been a good story, but I'll never know because I can't get past the terrible job.
