"I want more of the MacKenzies!"
I agree with Betty! This book has everything a romantic could want. I just wish Elizabeth Lowell had continued this series with the characters (MacKenzies) that are listed in this book...I was waiting to read about Ty's brothers: Logan & Silver, Duncan, Case and also Bluewolf & Cassie's story. I hope Elizabeth will return to continue the series, as she has with other groups/trilogies.
Laural Merlington, did a great job reading this book! I think she had the perfect, deep, sexy sound for the characters, men & women! The intonation or cadence of her voice was very realistic & vivid for this genre. I could "see" the scenes happening. A lot of female narrators don't find the necessity to deepen/change their voice when reading male parts, however, they do the story and their readers an injustice. Laural, however, makes the story come to life from the written words. Isn't that the whole reason we like audio-books?
"What's with the Cover???"
I've been listening to some of Diana Palmer's other books because I was in the mood for the Cowboy stories! Although I DID read the publishers info & reviews, the cover of this book shows a Cowboy with his Horse on the backround of prairie land!! It leads you to believe it is another one of the "Old Western" type stories, however, it's actually a modern story with cars & airplanes!!! Since I wasn't prepared for the modern story, it took me awhile to adjust & accept the situation...having said that, the book was actually pretty good and had good characters with an interesting plot. If the cover had been different & I had been prepared, then I'm sure I would have liked it right from the start. Hopefully, others will read this and be more prepared than I was! Actually, Jack Garrett, the narrator, has a deep sexy voice & is wonderful to listen to! So I'm sure others will enjoy it!
"Story so good it compensates for narration!"
Story & plot pulled me in, but after a little while I was distracted by the narration! The narrator's voice is pleasant as long as she's reading the women's parts. As she switches to men's & childrens voices they sound like crotchety, old men! However, Jodi Thomas' writing had me & I had to overcome & ignore the things I didn't like, so I could find out the details! If you can do this, then you'll be able to appreciate the story. If not, then don't waste your time & money on the audio...read the book! The story would be so much better to listen to, if it had a top notch narrator! Maybe someday the audio can be redone!!!
"Good story, but distracting narration!"
As long as the plot & story is decent, I usually don't have a problem with the narrator, and I especially like Stephanie Laurens' romances. However, this audio was quite different! Jasicki has a nice voice for a woman, but her male voices are very irritating! I hung in there for the whole first half because the story was intriguing and I really wanted to follow the relationship between the main characters. However, Jack's voice was so unmanly that I was distracted from the romance and had to abandon it!!! That's very frustrating, since that's the whole reason why I bought the audio version! It would be much better with another narrator.
