  • Surfaces and Essences: Analogy as the Fuel and Fire of Thinking

Analogy is the core of all thinking. This is the simple but unorthodox premise that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Douglas Hofstadter and French psychologist Emmanuel Sander defend in their new work. Hofstadter has been grappling with the mysteries of human thought for over 30 years. Now, with his trademark wit and special talent for making complex ideas vivid, he has partnered with Sander to put forth a highly novel perspective on cognition.

This book would have been better at half the length. The ideas I agree with but there are far too many tedious examples. They assume the reader is really dull and needs extensive examples to get it to sink in.

In the tradition of Carl Sagan, Rachel Carson, and Stephen Hawking, a new voice has emerged with the unique gift of translating cutting-edge science into clear, accessible language: Dr. Bruce Lipton. With The Wisdom of Your Cells, this internationally recognized authority on cellular biology takes listeners on an in-depth exploration into the microscopic world, where new discoveries and research are revolutionizing the way we understand life, evolution, and consciousness.

What would have made The Wisdom of Your Cells better?

I would have appreciated it if this book wasn't classified under Science & Technology. This is a quack alternative medicine book. I'm interested in learning more about cell biology and thought this would be a good book but I was duped. I learned very little and it's chock full of logical fallacies.

What could Bruce H. Lipton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Clearly annotated it with wording on the cover somewhere to clearly indicate that it wasn't a scientific book.

What didn???t you like about Bruce H. Lipton???s performance?

His reading was mostly fine although he would quite frequently get into modes where he would sound like a fanatical lunatic.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Annoyance.

    Any additional comments?

I don't have any problems with these books being on Audible, I am just annoyed that I was duped into buying it because I thought I was getting a book on science.
