Scalzi at his best. Very well read. Excellent sci-fi short. I would have liked more.
Found the story to be rediculous. Nothing interesting about main character or story. Got so irritated had to stop listening. Hoping to get back credit.
I found the first story to be fun but the two others were not very good in my opinion. Not worth the credit for 1 hour of material.
Found the reader monotonous. Ruined the stories for me. The reading made everything seem boring and the characters bored. However I only made it through the first 2 so perhaps the others are better.
I only made it through 3 chapters. I thought that maybe it would improve but I found it so bad that I couldn't make myself suffer through it. Well read at least. At times I felt embarrassed for the reader.
I think you must have to be interested in this person's life to enjoy this. I found it extremely boring and uninformative. They make it sound like it will give you dark insight into prison life - it does not.
did not read the book
Enjoyed this book but "journey", seriously???
Also, they hate oil company executives but they are driving around in an SUV.
However, I am looking forward to the next one
It was better than I expected. Actually enjoyed it very much. There's seems to be a lot of fake reviews posted on this site but I agree with most of the reviews I read of this book. I was concerned that it might be for the teenage crowd and not adults but I found it to be pretty entertaining. I listened to all three in a row, which I can rarely do with out getting bored with a series. It helps that these books are short. Don't expect too much. It is not a deep book and when I started to analyze it too much it loss some appeal. To believe that someone who has lived so long thinks like a 20 year old is hard to swallow. However, I do recommend it to people who like fantasy. I am looking forward to listening to the fourth in the series when it comes out.
when the main character is killed ;)
The main character. Yes the dog was good and funny but sometimes he sounded a little too scooby doo.
I would have someone with a dark and twisted side make it because it could easily be ruined. Perhaps David Lynch or Lars von Trier. I wouldn't have a tag line because this imaginary version of myself takes himself much too seriously as an artist and refuses to play along with the commercialized, soulless state of American movies that have tag lines.
I won't get into the details because you can read those in other reviews. This is a good story. Dated but enjoyable. Lloyd James does a poor russian accent which is distracting at times but if you don't let yourself dwell on it you will enjoy his work. I recommend this audiobook.
If you liked the first two in the series you will most likely like this. Gardner does a good job but, and this is a big but, there is a woman doing the women's voices who really does not fit the description of the character. I might be getting my books mixed up and maybe its the next in the series, I listened to it a while ago. When you hear her you will know. She sounds like an older woman with a shush shush lisp. The book describes a beautiful young woman and then the voice comes out that sounds as she could be in her late 60s early 70s , smoking a pack a day with a loose teeth. She is a good reader but the contrast to the description made me laugh and irritated me when she was also doing the voices in the following books. Sorry, just my opinion, I had to vent. Anyways it is a fun listen good for teens to adults. The first two were a little darker.
