In Rip-Off!, 13 of today’s best and most honored writers of speculative fiction face a challenge even they would be hard-pressed to conceive: Pick your favorite opening line from a classic piece of fiction (or even non-fiction) - then use it as the first sentence of an entirely original short story.

I guess when it comes to a short stories you are always going to have some good, some bad, but I really don't think I would have purchased this book if I had it to do over. There were some excellent stories, but the bad out weighed the good.
There are to many books out there more worthy of your credits!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long.

I've listened to the books in this series over and over. I can't wait for each installment. When ever I login in to Audible, one of the first things I check is if there is another book published in this series.
Harry Dresden is funny and a kind of underdog with very human problems and quite a few not so human problems. The other characters have grown through out the series and they seem (as they are) like old friends to Harry and to the reader.
His stories are always action packed with many twists and turns.

John Irving captures you with characters that you love, events that take you back to
childhood and wit that pulls you in.
So many actions and events make you think, yeah I remember that or I knew someone just like him. His humanity though out this book outstanding.
This is one of my most favorite books ever, and I read ALOT!

It is the greatest advance in American defense technology in decades - an attack submarine capable of incredible underwater speeds. Nothing else in any other nation’s naval arsenal even comes close. There is only one problem: A key element of the prototype is missing - and the man who developed it is dead. At the same time, ships have started vanishing mid-ocean, usually never to be found again, but when they are, sometimes bodies are found aboard... burned to a crisp.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

This story is so beautiful and heart breaking. I fell in love with the three main characters. There was just so much to them, they were so well developed that they just grabbed you and didn't let you go.
The story was so well built that even when you knew what was going to happen it still breaks your heart.
Beautifully written! Five starts all the way!

In "Undead Sublet" by Molly Harper, executive chef Tess Maitland is banned from her five-star kitchen in Chicago to recover from "exhaustion". I usually like at least two of these authors, the other I'm not familiar with. That being said, this book was so beyond terrible I may never buy a book from any of these authors again. I only got 1/4 of the way through this book and had to stop.
The characters were ALL irritating, always either over the top condesending or mewling milk sops.
The story line has been so over used I can't believe they went with it. No thought was put into the plot at all.
The narration was as over the top as the characters.
    Over all a terrible choice!

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut. Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.
