On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when--or if--it will go away.

One of the most engaging works of contemporary fiction I've read/listened to. I cared deeply about many of the characters and wanted to strangle some of the others.
The narrator was outstanding as well.

  • Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. The performance alone is worth the listen. Combine this with the lyrical loveliness and awfulness of McCarthy's best work in my opinion and you've got a narrative experience second to none.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Meridian?

    The Comanche raid.

What about Richard Poe’s performance did you like?

His voice and his timing were perfect for McCarthy's work.

If you could rename Blood Meridian, what would you call it?

    I wouldn't dare.
