Kafka on the Shore follows the fortunes of two remarkable characters. Kafka Tamura runs away from home at 15, under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy. The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down.

I loved this book. I listen to a wide variety of audio books but this one rates up there with the best. The readers did a wonderful job of bringing the book to life. This is one you can listen to many times and not get bored.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

I am not usually a big fan of historic fiction, but decided to try this one due to the wonderful reviews. I was not disappointed. It was a fabulous well written story. I loved every minute of it. The characters and setting are well detailed and it does not lack in action or plot. I have already recommended it to many friends.

People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

"OMG This is the funniest book ever"
    Overall

I loved this book. It was the funniest book I have read or listened to in a long long time. It is quite possibley the funniest book I have ever read. The humor is quite dark and if you are easily offended by language or other points of view religiously, then this is NOT the book for you. But if you are open to new experiences and ideas then by all means get this book!

When we meet septuagenarian Margaret Hughes, she is living alone in a mansion in Seattle with only a massive collection of valuable antiques for company. Enter Wanda Schultz, a young woman with a broken heart who has come to Seattle to search for her wayward boyfriend. Both women are guarding dark secrets and have spent many years building up protective armor against the outside world.

    "Great Characters"
    Overall

This was a wonderful book with the most unforgetable characters. I know all of these people would be my friends if I met them in real life. The story line is great as well, but the best part of this book is how well developed the characters are. You feel as if you know them.

This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, a librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36, and were married when Clare was 22 and Henry 30. Impossible but true, because Henry has Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his past, present, and future.

I was warned that this would be a hard book to listen to due to the way it jumps back and forth in time, but I did not find it difficult at all. I could not put this book down. I actually sat in my car on occasion just to listen to the story. Don't start this book unless you have plenty of time to finish!

Excellent book for family listening. This book not only enchanted my 6 & 8 year olds, but kept my husband and I hooked. The reader did a great job of giving each character a distinct personality. I would definatly recommend this book to anyone.
