The content of the book was good but the performance made it difficult to listen to could only listen for short periods at a time.
I really like Simon Vance but this book was just to much like a text book with footnotes in the middle of a sentence. Simon french is beautiful but there is so much french that I was having trouble following it. Didn't get far before I just gave up. If you like stories about artist and you like sculptors I suggest the Agony & Ecstasy (about michaelangelo). Its a great listen/
Overall I really liked this book. i also enjoyed the narration. I did think that there was a little excess family history that slowed the story down a bit in the beginning but once it got rolling it was fascinating. I grew up around the muppets Sesame Street and didn't really know much if his story, he was definitely not the one dimensional man I thought. I would recommend to anyone who is a Henson fan, but also to those who study success.
Thank you audible for this wonderful gift. Have never read this story before and would not have been one that I would have chosen for myself. Jim Dale is wonderful in his narration of this very heartfelt wonderful story.
A Christmas carol is one of my all time favorite stories add to that Jim dales narration and I absolutely loved it.
I just love Jim Dale. His narrations are always so entertaining
It's funny because after I finished Aliegent. I was thinking they probably should have waited until the first movie came before releasing the book. I was super excited about the movie and now after the last book, I my enthusiasm has definately diminished.
I really enjoyed the first two books and suggested them to friends but this last book just should have been so much better. I listened to the first books and could not stop listening. This one I kept starting and stopping and starting because it just didn't keep me engaged. I also felt like the pacing was bad sometimes it seemed to be slow and other times things felt rushed. The end was just ............. there. You have this emotional climax (which was rushed but I must admit mad me cry) and then several chapters of clean up and then just ....nothing. All I can say is I was very disappointed.
This is a great learning book on how to be successful. If you are a fan of self-improvement and would like to learn more about success or just like reading about successful people, This is a great book. Especially if you are an artist or a creative person this was a man who had a HUGE vision. The performance was along the lines of other biographys or self improvement. It didn't put me to sleep but it wasn't super special either. All that being said, I will definately listen to this again next time with a journal to take notes.
WAY ABOVE EXPECTATIONS
The human side of the stories
I am not a fan of Zombie books. I picked this book after all the movie trailers ( have not seen the movie yet) but really after listening to the sound clip. I thought it was so cool to have it performed not just read. I was not disappointed this book went way above my expectations. I have always thought zombies were lame. But this book was so great how it went about telling the story about the war, to the point were you could believe that it could happen. Super glad I took the chance on something that I normally would not listen too.
Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
I really only got this book because it had some good reviews and it was cheap. Was I surprised. When I first started listening to it I thought it was going to be a sweet little childerns story that didn't have much to it but about 15% into the story it really picks up. I really enjoyed it, The author has combined my stories to make a truly original new fairy tale for older childern and adults alike. ( Would not recommend listening with younger childern since there are some creepy/scary parts)
of course ...because it does not have a satisfactory ending.
I got this book based on many postive reviews. Have you ever been to a movie that someone raved about and you thought it was just, OK. That is how I felt listening to this book. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book but I didn't think it was spectacular. It was predictable, and the audio narration was decent. My real pet peeve, which I have notice somewhat with other YA novels but really noticed with this one, is that it just ends....there is no conclusion it just stops, and you are forced to read the next book if you are curious to see what happens. The ending seemed anti-climatic. YA books, even if they want to do sequel books can have decent endings, and if they would please start the next book with maybe a recap so it doesnt feel like it is the next chaper of the last book. Ok end of rant.
SPOILER ALERT:I guess it would be climatic if you didn't know who she was from almost the beginning of the book, and they just ended it with her sitting there in jail...she can't escape and be on the run. Really.....you have to save that for the next book!
I read this book a few years ago and thought I would get a refresher by listening to the audiobook. Although I love the information it is one of those books you have to read. If you are an artist or want to be, I highly suggest this book. But read it, because it will give you more time to let what they are telling you really sink in.
