"Predictable"
I agree with all the other negative reviews here and also add that the book is extremely predictable. If you have a brain, don't waste your time with this like I did.
"Brutally honest"
Jackson Galaxy's journey from the depths of addiction to success as a cat behaviorist is inspiring. He draws parallels of his struggle to find emotional peace with the story of the love/hate relationship he has with his cat, Benny, but this is really Jackson's story - his journey, his redemption and, ultimately, his triumph. I don't think you need to have a cat or even love cats to find a deep empathy for Jackson. His struggles are our struggles, his foibles are our foibles. Because of this, his reading rings especially true. He is in the room with us, telling his story in all its beauty and ugliness. No one else could have told it with such a passion and truth that made me smile, laugh and cry.
"Riveting"
Fragoso brings raw honesty to a horrific story. The poetic quality of her writing belies the pain, anger and suffering she recounts as survivor of child sexual abuse. While Fragoso's story is often sickening and difficult to listen to, this is a tale no parent should shy away from.
"What an amazing life"
Susie Bright's memoir of her life as an abused child coming of age in the 70's is riveting. Her memories of being raised by a mentally ill mother who physically and emotionally abused her was poignant and, at times, heartbreaking. Inspite of the pain, Susie has accomplished more in her life than most of us have ever dreamed of. Maybe the pain in her formative years is the reason she has spent her adult life fighting for the rights of those who live outside the acceptance of mainstream society. Her life and her story are inspirational.
"Good Information"
Susie Bright provides great information about how to write erotica for those just getting started. Her advice about how to avoid some of the most common mistakes writers make on the page and when conducting the business of writing is also valuable. I wish she had devoted more time to that kind of information and less time to giving her bio at the beginning of the book. Some of it was interesting but I thought it went on too long. The reference materials she provides are also excellent. Good job, Susie.
"Chuck at his best"
Yes, but only the unabridged version. It's smart, funny and entertaining.
It is well-written and just like most of Chuck's books, it offers subtle pearls of wisdom throughout.
All scenes involving interaction of the characters in the 12-step program.
A sex addict tries to come to terms with the fake and real parts of his life, without knowing which is which.
"One of Irving's Best"
This is one of the best audiobook productions I have ever listened to. John Irving and the narrator, Joe Barrett, do such an amazing job of breathing life into Owen Meaney, I was actually tearful at the end. Kudos to everyone involved in the production.
"Fantastic!"
Dr. Ratey provides great information about exercise's effect on the mind/body connection. If you're going to listen to only one book this year, make it this one.
"Fantastic!!"
One of Palahniuk's best. Once you get used to the language, the story is compelling, smart, and at times, laugh out loud funny. Palahniuk is definitely my favorite writer of contemporary fiction. Also, the narration was spot on. Excellet job all around.
"Irresistible"
Fabulous!!! I loved this audiobook. Palahniuk's voice is smart and witty with just enough edge to make the main character and story compelling. The reader was perfect for this material. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book, but Palahniuk's voice isn't for everyone. If you like wholesome, positive stories with good-hearted characters, this is probably not the book for you.
