Against the romantic backdrop of Edwardian Egypt, the irresistible Amelia Peabody and her charmingly unconventional family prove themselves to be formidable foes of villainy. In The Ape Who Guards the Balance, Amelia must muster all of her considerable skills of detection to unravel a snarled web of stolen archeological treasures, murderous cults, and fallen women.

Yvonne Jocks says: "Another Wonderful Book in the Series"
    "another great Amelia Peabody book"
    Overall

There are a few authors whose books I buy immediately without even reading the cover. And fewer who I will pre-order based on name alone. Elizabeth Peters is one of those authors. Her books are readable and of the best "who dunit" tradition.
As for Ms Rosenblat...to call her the best reader I have ever heard falls short of the mark. She is wonderful. Once you listen to her you cannot be satisfied with other duller, uni-dimensional narrators.

    Ann says: "Abridged to death"
"not as good as it should be"
    Overall

I have bought and enjoyed the Outlander series, so I fully expected to enjoy this audio version. I was wrong.
It was "abridged" too much, to the point where, if I hadn't already read the book, I would have gotten lost.
The final insult to injury was The Reader. Her voice and presentation was as exciting as watching paint peal.
Do yourself a favor, unless you are REALLY desperate for something to read, skip this one.
