"Good book, bad narrator"
Great book, good ideas. Wish Sam Harris had read it himself. The narrator doesn't seem to be able to inflect and give proper emphasis to Sam's words.
"Definitely not the Mayle we've come to expect"
This book is like grocery store sushi, OK if you need a fix, but in the end bland and disappointing and leaves you wondering why you bothered. Hopefully Mayle will rediscover the inspiration of his earlier books before dumping another of these on us.
"What a bore"
I am approaching 200 audiobooks, like many books others don't seem to enjoy and generally enjoy highly rated books, but am at a complete loss to understand what other raters and reviewers find so compelling about this one. This book should have been abridged by its editor in the first place and saved us at least 2/3 of the 32+ hours of sheer boring nothingness that comprises most of the story. And that is to say nothing of a, for a lack of a better word, dumb (stupid) premise upon which the entire story is based. Maybe I missed something, but I can suspend my disbelief with the best of them and listen to some pointless fiction for entertainment, but this is one that can be skipped entirely without having missed a thing. I should have turned it off 6 hours in as I started to realize this...
