Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Would you recommend And One Last Thing... to your friends? Why or why not?

oh yes... great fun escapist fiction

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

i listen to so many of your audiobooks that for me to say no would be a guess.. but she certainly did an excellent job with this one

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

oh i laughed...and unlike others who thought she was treated shabbily at first after her big "splash"... obviously they have never been divorced in a small town...there might be things more brutal... but not many

    Any additional comments?

Would you try another book from Gemma Halliday and/or Caroline Shaffer?

not unless she does a better job with the main character...the author has a gift for dialog...many chuckles... but the main character Maddie... needs slapped....no one... no one could possibly be this big a ding bat!!!!!!!!!

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have a Harlan Coben up next

What about Caroline Shaffer’s performance did you like?

somewhat whiny... but then she is doing Maddie...ding bat ....
but she does a good job bringing Maddie to life

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    irritation....

    Any additional comments?

this is sort of a fun book to listen to...and if u download it I am sure u will find several chuckle-making scenes... but I just want to hit Maddie over the head with something... and when u listen u will know to what I am referring... and say .. get on with it!!!!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

What could Nele Neuhaus have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

written it better...his characterizations are very good but it was just so damn predictable

What does Robert Fass bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

very good narrator... keeps the swedish flavor without losing u in the accent

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

well if u have not listened to the millenium trilogy then it would be a better listen... i was expecting more... maybe in vain...maybe the trilogy is the best swedish authors have to offer

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

  • A Prayer for Owen Meany

    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

    (2668)
    Story
    (2672)

Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

What did you love best about A Prayer for Owen Meany?

easier to ask what i did not love... this is a truly wonderful and, dare i say, inspiring book

What other book might you compare A Prayer for Owen Meany to and why?

Illusions... by Richard Bach...because it weaves a spiritual content seamlessly into a terrific read

Have you listened to any of Joe Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, sadly this was my first listen to Mr. Barrett... but u can take to the bank that i will be looking for his narration in other works and it might be enough to make me get them...lovely voice... and added a lot to the book... i would not have given owen as strident a voice if i only had the words in my head and that constant promal scream of his was grating but made the character so much more compelling

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

i think it was made into a movie and was so horribly done that Mr Irving severed all connection to it... this is not a book that would lend itself to a movie...it's too rich, and too complex to be reduced to the screen

    Any additional comments?

    it should be required reading...

What would have made The Nightmare Thief better?

    a paper shredder???

Has The Nightmare Thief turned you off from other books in this genre?

the nightmare thief damn near turned me off books forever... there is no way i would ever read another by this author...i thouught the marilyn quayle book done several years ago was the worst i had ever listened to... well step down ,madam second lady... u have been replaced

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

susan ericksen was, as always, wonderful...

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Nightmare Thief?

i would have never let this thing get into print...

    Any additional comments?

it is the only book i ever listened to in which i hoped everyone would die

Would you listen to Killing Floor again? Why?

yes... i listen to all of my books more than once unless i simply hate them

What did you like best about this story?

Jack... very cool... seriously flawed but an interesting man...

    Which scene was your favorite?

when he and the detective connect... the man... chief of detectives from boston...not the woman...but when they come to a meeting of the minds... u know the story is going to take off

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

you would need to combine more than one of the reacher books to make an interesting movie... jack unfolds slowly one book after another... the more i read.. the better i like him and the series...any movie made form just one of the series would be too one dimensional, in my opinion

    Any additional comments?

as i said the reacher novels are excellent but u need to read more than one of them and to read them in order to get the big picture... i love lincoln child... what an imagination... between these and the pendergast books he writes with douglas preston i would be hard put to decide which i like better
