It was supposed to be a fun day, shopping at the mall with her best friend. Then the panic attack started and Kaylee Cavanaugh finds herself screaming, unable to stop. Her secret fears are exposed, and it's the worst day of her life....Until she wakes up in the psychiatric unit. She tries to convince everyone she's fine--despite the shadows she sees forming around another patient and the urge to scream which comes burbling up again and again.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If they could've gotten to the point faster. I can sum up in one sentence what the first 40 minutes of this audio says. Some teenager suffers from a mental breakdown screaming fit in the mall and then gets locked up in a mental institution and then has issues coping with her environment because she thinks she's fine. Snore!

Has My Soul to Lose turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I like the narrator and the genre so I'm glad this book was free because it sucked.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I like the narrator because I've heard some of the other books she performed. She's witty and has a teenager's voice but I didn't like this particular story.

This was a different story from some of the Highland stories I'm use to. In this story an English lady is forced to marry a Highland Laird and visa versa. I was refreshed to hear that this English lady was not all prime and fluff. She actually did work around her household and hunted which made her a talented and outspoken lady. They made fun of her name being Jamie (which is a man's name in Scotland) which repeated over and over again and was not really funny, but overall the book was well written and narrated.

Lady Aline Marsden was brought up for one reason: to make an advantageous marriage to a member of her own class. Instead, she willingly gave her innocence to John McKenna, a servant on her father’s estate. Their passionate transgression was unforgivable - John was sent away, and Aline was left to live in the countryside - an exile from London society - and he took her love. Now McKenna has made his fortune, and he has returned - more boldly handsome and more mesmerizing than before.

    Story

I was first interested in this story by the well written description of the book and I was looking forward to listening to this book since it's been in my Wish List for a while. The book starts off very good with a typical forbidden love story of a lady that falls in love with stable boy and of course they can't be together because of their social class. He then gets sent away by her father after their snuggle session was witnessed and they're forced apart. When he comes back years later, they fall in love again. However, (now here's the lame part), she doesn't give her full heart to him because she is now superficially damaged. I can't believe she'd rather spend the rest of her life as a spinster because she has a few scars on her legs and she's embarrased to show him. Instead she lets him go AGAIN, without a fight, and he promises to leave for good if she doesn't marry him. Luckily, it all works out at the end, but come on! Talk about shallow sense of worth if she thinks he's better off alone rather than tell him she has a couple of scars. That part was LAME!

Worth the credit? Eh, probably not, since I told you most of the story but I'll leave it up to you. I bought this on sale luckily so it saved me the credit.

The story is well written and narrated. I skipped the 2nd book because I didn't like Violet's sister in the 1st book and didn't care to hear her romantic story. But after listening to book 1, I was definitely curious as to how Violet's friend Eliza would fare after being raised as a timid wall flower in search of a husband. Eliza soon finds her wings and confidence when she gets a makeover by Violet and Kit. It's a cute story and worth the credit.

    Story

This was a great love story on how 2 people came together in a special circumstance. I love how Izzy is a strong willed character that doesn't mind sticking up for herself when it comes to her family. However, when it comes sticking up to her lover/husband, she really doesn't get around to it until the end. When listening to this story, I wish the characters would just stop and sit down to talk about their situations instead of avoiding each other and secretly wishing they could explain their point of views. Instead, they're longing for each other from a distance, stewing over their situations, and then regretting the actions they take. Arrrh, I just want to scream..."get to the point already and explain yourself to each other!" So if you have patience (like I don't), then you'll enjoy the listen. Just take time out of your day to do it.

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

    Story

I love books with romance, humor, and sexy highlander lairds and this book has all of that. I read the reviews on the narrator being awful, but I disagree. It can get a little annoying listening to the male character's voices at times when the male characters start yelling in outrage but the story is wonderful. I couldn't stop smiling to myself while listening to this book because there is a lot of humorous moments in there. I wish the story was longer with a better ending but it's definitely worth the credit.

Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold-shoulder treatment forever - especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.... I love all books by Jeaniene Frost. If you're not familiar with the author, try "Halfway to the Grave" first and then go on from there. Then you'll enjoy the "Once Burned" book and then this one. This book was just as exciting as Once Burned and can't wait for the next one to come out. The narrator is great!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you're a Fifty Shades fan, you'll love this book. Full of erotic sex scenes with a good storyline. In Fifty Shades, the woman character seems submissive and weak. This female character is strong, independent, but slightly flawed.

What did you like best about this story?

It's nice to see the layers of her protective self slowly come apart throughout the story.

What does Paula Costello bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator of this story pulls off the Scottish accent well and the different tones of her voice gives each individual character. There are funny moments that made me laugh out loud and there are sad moments that almost made me cry. Her great narration of the story brought those emotions out of me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending is moving. I won't spoil the rest, but it's definitely worth the credit.

"My name is different every month: Brandy, Honey, Amy. Sometimes Joe doesn't even bother to ask, but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I'm called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing....My real name is Sadie, and once a month, over lunch, Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn't know is that, in my mind, I'm the star of every one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I'm practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life."

I purchased this book because it was on sale but I should've listened to the first book of the series to get a better back ground on some of the other characters. Overall good story and worth the sale price. I was hooked on the story description of her being a massage therapist because I'm a massage therapist, but the story only highlights that, that's her profession, not a massage therapist turned seductress like I thought the story would be. But alas, she only seduces one client which predictably becomes her boyfriend at the end.
