I'm a big Thor fan but I wish I would have listened to the other reviewers and passed on this book. This one lacks the realism of his other books. Character development is lacking, there is zero suspense, his females operatives don't come across as professionals with all the discussion of who's dating who, fashion choices, etc. It's just....not good, and not a representation of Thor's usual ability.
This was is a good read by a great narrator. This is my first P.T. Deutermann novel, but I'm a big Lee Child fan, and this reminded me of many of his stories. Some of the decisions made by the main characters were questionable, as are aspects of the plot, but if readers can suspend disbelief and just go with it, I'm sure it will be much enjoyed. I liked it enough that I'm now searching for my next P.T. Deutermann book.
I normally avoid this genre, preferring mysteries and thrillers, but this was one of my favorite books this year (and I've listened to over 50.) I even gifted it to the rest of my family. Fantastic creativity by the author. He even manages excellent character development in a dog! I had no problem suspending disbelief with the more surreal aspects of this novel. It made me laugh and brought tears to your eyes, and caused me to see my dog a little differently Anyone that likes animals will love this book.
I'm glad I finally rediscovered King. It's been a while but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Interesting and terrifying premise. Wish King would produce more of this genre.
