Freedom comically and tragically captures the temptations and burdens of too much liberty: the thrills of teenage lust, the shaken compromises of middle age, the wages of suburban sprawl, the heavy weight of empire. In charting the mistakes and joys of Freedom's intensely realized characters, as they struggle to learn how to live in an ever more confusing world, Franzen has produced an indelible and deeply moving portrait of our time.

Without David Ledoux's clever reading of this very long book, I wouldn't have finished it! I started to read the hardcover, since I recommended it to my book club, but found it wordy and to tell the truth, boring, but Ledoux's creative narrative flare for each character kept me entertained and engaged. Bravo David. I look forward to listening to more of his work.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

"Best read in a very long time."

I can't seem to get enough of this book! It has all the right ingredients - humour, well written/ read, engaging, and enlightening. What a prize! I must say that I've often chosen what I thought were interesting books only to skip chapters so I could put myself out of misery. This hit leaves me wanting, no yearning, for more. I listen to it on CD's while driving and find myself searching for longer routes between stops. This is one gem that I will not be deleting from my computer. Read it!
