"Well read - Interesting Book"
I enjoyed listening to this book. It's shocking to hear the slang, the use of the n-word, and the prejudice demonstrated here by so many of the characters. But it is clear that Mark Twain was trying to capture time in a bottle, showing the language, customs, popular beliefs, However, the authordemonstrates his disapproval of the prejudice by the way the story unfolds. When Huck acts most prejudiced, he is trying to blend in with the crowd in order to help Jim. Jim ends up being the most noble character of all, with his self-less actions and deep sense of right and wrong. Elijah Wood was spot on with the reading. Worth the listen.
"Follows a forumla, and includes commercials"
This series is getting increasingly commercial, and I don't find it as amusing or creative as I did in the past.
"Entertaining listen"
This is my first Simon Green book, and I very much enjoyed it. It was fun fantasy, a creative plot, and likeable heros. I've had a lot of dreary tasks to contend with recently, and this book helped me get through them with a smile. Stuart Blinder was a perfect reader for this. I will be looking for more books in the series.
"Another fun listen from Jeanine Frost"
I really enjoy this series, and this book follows suit. It was shorter than the others, and wished it hadn't ended so quickly, but I did very much enjoy it!
"Plodding, aweful"
I tried...I really tried. I got through the other books somehow. But when I resolutely started this book and saw that the author was bringing in new characters and subplots and not even trying to wrap this story up, I freed myself up from this author's gigantic ego and inability to edit anything and gave myself permission to listen to something I liked.
And life was good again.
....And if I never hear of anybody's maidenhood again, that will be all the better.
"Not her best"
I thought this book would never get started. The first 1/4 of the book moved very slowly. Plus, there were multiple plots that changed abruptly from chapter to chapter, and I kept thinking I somehow fastforwarded and missed the transition, so I had to relisten to the slowest parts of the book again trying to figure out how I got there. Eventually, this delightful author found her stride the story started to move at a good pace. But I tend think that maybe the abridged version wouldn't have been a bad idea on this one.
"The best book in the series"
This book has some interesting characters and a lot of unexpected turns. But overall the series is very long-winded. I'm glad I read it but I can't say I think it's a fabulous series. It's just a series that goes on and on.
"Fun listen"
Engaging characters, a few unexpected plot twists, very well performed. Many explicit sex scenes, so not the book you'd share with the kiddies while driving cross country.
"History has never been so interesting"
I thought this was fascinating listen! The author draws connections between different events through history and shows their global impact. I really enjoyed this book.
"outdated"
This was probably cutting edge when it came out, but there have been many similiar stories since, and I couldn't seem to get through this story.
"Middle school stuff - ugh"
Combine the dialog and values of a social climbing, boy crazy, fashion conscious middle school girl (who is constantly denying is she is social climbing, boy crazy, and fashion conscious) with fantasies about being a bad-ass 27 year old vampire who wears big girl tight pants; add some pink cupcakes; and voila...you have this story. I got through it, but have no desire to follow the series.
