Kristine Barnett’s son Jacob has an IQ higher than Einstein’s, a photographic memory, and he taught himself calculus in two weeks. At 9 he started working on an original theory in astrophysics that experts believe may someday put him in line for a Nobel Prize, and at age 12 he became a paid researcher in quantum physics. But the story of Kristine’s journey with Jake is all the more remarkable because his extraordinary mind was almost lost to autism. At age 2, when Jake was diagnosed, Kristine was told he might never be able to tie his own shoes.

In Catching the Big Fish, internationally acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch provides a rare window into his methods as an artist, his personal working style, and the immense creative benefits he has experienced from the practice of meditation. Lynch describes the experience of "diving within" and "catching" ideas like fish and then preparing them for television or movie screens, and other mediums in which he works, such as painting, music, and design.

The first thing Sophia Amoruso sold online wasn’t fashion - it was a stolen book. She spent her teens hitchhiking, committing petty theft, and dumpster diving. By twenty-two, she had resigned herself to employment, but was still broke, directionless, and working a mediocre day job she’d taken for the health insurance. It was there that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay. Eight years later, she is the founder, CEO, and creative director of Nasty Gal, a $100 million plus online fashion retailer with more than 350 employees.

Eff was born a thirteenth child. Her twin brother, Lan, is the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he's supposed to possess amazing talent - and she's supposed to bring only bad things to her family and her town. Undeterred, her family moves to the frontier, where her father will be a professor of magic at a school perilously close to the magical divide that separates settlers from the beasts of the wild. With wit and wonder, Patricia Wrede creates an alternate history of westward expansion that will delight fans of both J. K. Rowling and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Would you try another book from Patricia C. Wrede and/or Amanda Ronconi?

This author does not understand that repetition does get old. Wow

Would you ever listen to anything by Patricia C. Wrede again?

    No

What didn’t you like about Amanda Ronconi’s performance?

The performance & story was ok it was just her repeating and only caring about her being the 13th child that sucked big time.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Thirteenth Child?

After the first 4 times I would stop talking about her 13th child crap unless the story actually changed a bit from it.

    Any additional comments?

While working together at a Los Angeles boutique, Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor became fast and furious friends over the impossibility of finding the perfect T-shirt. Following their vision of comfortable, fitted T-shirts, they set up shop in Gela’s one-bedroom Hollywood apartment with $200 and one rule: Whatever they did, they both had to be obsessed by it. Pam and Gela eventually sold their company to Liz Claiborne for $50 million, but not before they created a whole new genre of casual clothing that came to define California cool.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

On June 5, 2002, 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart, the daughter of a close-knit Mormon family, was taken from her home in the middle of the night by religious fanatic, Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee. She was kept chained, dressed in disguise, repeatedly raped, and told she and her family would be killed if she tried to escape. After her rescue on March 12, 2003, she rejoined her family and worked to pick up the pieces of her life.

What did you love best about My Story?

It's amazing that Elizabeth was able to be so honest with what happened to her. I really wish the best for her & she's inspired me to live each day to the fullest. What a strange story of warning with what happens each day right under our noses. I think she's amazing for being an activist now, here's to hoping this doesn't happen to any other young beautiful souls.

What other book might you compare My Story to and why?

This is the first book about kidnapping that I've read.

What about Elizabeth Smart’s performance did you like?

    Her strength.

If you could give My Story a new subtitle, what would it be?

Even the most horrific events can lead to a beautiful life if you just fight to stay true to yourself & survive.

    Any additional comments?

A must read, very powerful, though may make you cry at how honest & brutal this story-events where.

From such famed historical legends as Aleister Crowley, Marie Laveau, and Elizabeth Báthory to the popular literary and cinematic figures Harry Potter and the Wicked Witch of the West, Illes offers a complete range of the history of witches. What made the experience of listening to The Weiser Field Guide to Witches the most enjoyable?

I really like that they weave a historical path through witchcraft history but also let you know what is viable in our modern time & the real history. It's fun to listen too & does move along very quickly which made me want to learn-read more.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Gives both the hardships of these early magical pioneers, their dreams & their downfalls all together. So is a full round perspective.

    Which scene was your favorite?

How quickly the whole thing moves along, everything so far I've liked.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me feel like I was in a tunnel & the images in the book where the paintings in this tunnel cave.
