Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

What would have made Daemon better?

Less focus on gaming, more focus on character development

Has Daemon turned you off from other books in this genre?

I would have to read more reviews on a book before I ventured into this genre again

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeff Gurner?

Narrator was fine, the story line just seemed disjointed

Would you listen to The Likeness again? Why?

I doubt I would listen to The Likeness again if it weren't for Heather O'Neill's narration which added another dimension to the story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I kept trying to guess the ending, but took a wrong turn down the maize of possibilities Tana French created.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time available I would have listened to it in three or four sittings.

For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch - hero, maverick, nighthawk - the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. The dead man, Billy Meadows, was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who fought side by side with him in a nightmare underground war that brought them to the depths of hell.

First time listening to Dick Hill who did a great job with the narration.

You'd meet the brave young heroes, Cass and Max Ernest. Hillary Jordan's mesmerizing debut novel won the Bellwether Prize for fiction. A powerful piece of Southern literature, Mudbound takes on prejudice in its myriad forms on a Mississippi Delta farm in 1946. City girl Laura McAllen attempts to raise her family despite questionable decisions made by her husband. Tensions continue to rise when her brother-in-law and the son of a family of sharecroppers both return from WWII as changed men bearing the scars of combat.

Betty says: "May this South never rise again."

Where does Mudbound rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It certainly was engrossing to listen to. I looked forward to having time to listen to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mudbound?

The barn scene was exciting tense, and heartbreaking all at the same time. One of those I don't want to hear what happens, but can't stop listening.

Have you listened to any of the narrator’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

There were many voices in Mudbound, which added to the richness of the story

If you could take any character from Mudbound out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Do I have to pick just one? (I'd leave Pappy home.)

    Great story, excellant performances.

Liam Mulligan is as old school as a newspaper man gets. His beat is Providence, Rhode Island, and he knows every street and alley. He knows the priests and prostitutes, the cops and street thugs. He knows the mobsters and politicians--who are pretty much one and the same. Someone is systematically burning down the neighborhood Mulligan grew up in, people he knows and loves are perishing in the flames, and the public is on the verge of panic.

Where does Rogue Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. The narration with the New England accent was spot on.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman and Bruce DeSilva (Introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I had the opportunity to listen to Jeff Woodman. I will look for him in the future. Can't wait for Bruce DeSilva to write another novel.

    Any additional comments?

I just kept smiling as I listened to the New England idioms. Not a heavy plot, but sometimes an entertaining story is all you need.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.
