Triple Agent sort of amazed me with the details obtained by the writer. I found myself wondering how he got all this access and information.
Malhorta seemed to get way to much enjoyment out of saying the word's 'Pakistan' and 'Afghanistan' in an unusual way.
I've read a lot of books about Rome and Greece and the ancient world, and yet this book still held so many surprises for me.
The author has a keen ability to perceive history through fresh eyes -- those of Cleopatra herself rather than those of the Romans who so despised her.
A brilliant work.
This book was so strangely brilliant that it grips you and holds your attention. But the writing also seemed sexist and racist.
If you're looking for insights into the fall of Rome, Greece or Persia, look elsewhere. If you want to hear about global warming, natural resources and mining contracts then buy this book. It's very well written, researched and edited. But it's also too thorough and sad enough to make one consider suicide. I got through the part about genocide in Rwanda and considered slitting my wrists.
Legacy of Ashes was a marvel of journalistic investigation, objectivity and intrigue. The author takes us behind closed doors into the CIA for an unparelleled look at covert operations, which largely failed. I loved this work. It was smart. It was thorough. As a journalist, I was in awe.
As a long time fan of Anne Rice and her Vampire books, I delved quickly into Queen of the Damned. While I enjoyed the story, I found it at times very difficult to follow. The ABRIDGED recording seemed to jump at innoportune places and left me wondering what I had missed. Those seeking more insight into the lives of certain vampires, such as Pandora, Louis or Maruis, will find that there place has largely been cut from the story. Fans may want to wait for an unabridged recording to come out. Or read the book.
As someone who'se always been fascinated with the workings of the human race, our selves, I found this book very enlightening. The only draw back was the reader, or narrator, of the story, whose voice seemed a distraction. The guy sounded like he was out of breath. But the book and its contents were truly informative. i I see my brain differently now.
