The first time Bridger saw Dana she was dancing barefoot, her hair aflame in the red glow of the club, her body throbbing with rhythms and cross-rhythms that only she could hear. He was mesmerized. That night they were both deaf, mouthing to each other over the booming bass. And it was not until their first date, after he had agonized over what CD to play in the car, that Bridger learned that her deafness was profound and permanent. By then, he was falling in love.

This book was a "true" horror story to me. Identity Theft is something you can't control and you know it happens.

This book is as real and as dark as fiction can get. Not an uplifting story but fascinating.

As the most celebrated European to explore Asia, Marco Polo was the original global traveler and the earliest bridge between East and West. A universal icon of adventure and discovery, he has inspired six centuries of popular fascination and spurious mythology. Now, from acclaimed author Laurence Bergreen, comes the first fully authoritative biography of one of the most enchanting figures in world history.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Outstanding story for history buffs.

What other book might you compare Marco Polo to and why?

Similar to Columbus books. This book held my interest and I'm not usually a fan of World History.

What disappointed you about Crusader's Cross?

Amnesia should no longer be allowed as the plot line for novels.

Has Crusader's Cross turned you off from other books in this genre?

I'm done with Dave Robicheaux after several books. Tin Roof Blowdown was the best.

Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?

Will Patton uses a list of voices but it's not enough to keep you listening

Most of us believe that we will finally feel satisfied and content with our lives when we get the good news we have been waiting for, find a healthy relationship, or achieve one of our personal goals. However, this rarely happens. Good fortune is often followed by negative emotions that overtake us and result in destructive behaviors.

Monica Raven says: "Inspiring, useful, a little preachy but VERY good"
"Poor beginning but gains some steam by the end"
    Overall

Honestly, do we need to hear about how executives and CEOs are feeling ever again? Zone Of Genius? Zone Of Excellence? How about the "zone of be happy you still have a job"? This book needs to be more grounded to regular people. It does give some methods to improve attitude in the second half of the book.

Swan Peak finds Detective Robicheaux far from his New Iberia roots, attempting to relax in the untouched wilderness of rural Montana. He, his wife, and his buddy Clete Purcell have retreated to stay at an old friend's ranch, hoping to spend their days fishing and enjoying their distance from the harsh, gritty landscape of Louisiana post-Katrina.

    Overall

You expect some exaggerations in COP novels but this one is ridiculous. Not all of it ties together, either. If you haven't read Tin Roof Blowdown, go get that one instead.

Will Patton's voices saves this book from getting one star.

Jodi Picoult delivers the riveting tale of one small town's entanglement with high-school violence.

New York Superior Court Judge Alex Cormier is assigned to preside over the case of the alleged Sterling High School shooter. Lawyer Jordan McAffee represents Peter, the boy who, on the day of the shooting, was found in the corner of the gymnasium holding a gun to his head with a shaky hand. Detective Patrick DuCharme has one star witness, but her story keeps changing. And then there's the biggest problem of all: the star witness happens to be Judge Cormier's daughter.

This book should offend anyone who's ever had jury duty. The mother of a victim who knows the defendant presides over the Capital Murder Trial. You're not serious?

  • American Heroes: In the Fight Against Radical Islam: War Stories

Oliver North offers an inspiring, first-hand account of the extraordinary young American volunteers defending us against radical Islamic terror.

Since 9-11-01, North and his War Stories documentary team have made a dozen extended trips to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Philippines, covering U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, Guardsmen, and Marines. American Heroes offers a close-up of this generation's "citizen-soldiers" who have chosen the path of the patriot and gone into harm's way for their countrymen.

    Darren says: "Great detail"
    "Too Political"
    Overall

I bought this book to hear about individual stories of our military personnel. About 20% of the book gives actual experiences of people in Iraq. The remainder is a pep rally for the war.

It was a conflict as controversial as it was calamitous, with the dubious distinction of being the first war ever fought on television. But beyond the images of battle-ravaged Vietnam lie exploits of some of the war's elite Allied mavericks, recounted here In Their Own Words. With you-are-there narration by the men who actually were, this audio reveals the precise and riveting preparation for, and aftermath of, clandestine missions.

T.C. Boyle is hailed as "America's most imaginative contemporary novelist" (Newsweek). In 1970, a California commune pulls up stakes and moves to the harsh interior of Alaska. The members establish Drop City, a back-to-the-land town, on a foundation of peace and free love. But their idealism cannot prevent tension from rippling through the group. The results are anything but predictable in this honest, surprising evocation of a time period and its enduring beliefs.

    Lynne says: "Dig this..."
    "Best T.C. Boyle"
    Overall

This is the best T.C. Boyle on Audible. How can you beat a story about a 1970s commune and some trappers in Alaska?

For the listener who likes realistic fiction, I strongly recommend it.

Lisey Debusher Landon lost her husband, Scott, two years ago, after a 25-year marriage of the most profound and sometimes frightening intimacy. Scott was an award-winning, best-selling novelist, and a very complicated man. Early in their relationship, before they married, Lisey had to learn from him about books and blood and "bools". Later, she understood that there was a place Scott went, a place that both terrified and healed him, could eat him alive, or give him the ideas he needed in order to live.

After hearing the excerpt from this book in the Thalia Book Club selection, I thought this book would be a Stephen King story along the lines of Stand By Me, Misery, or Shawshank Redemption. Unfortunately, the book didn't live up to the preview.

Instead, Stephen King wrote a story about himself and his wife and their ability to cross into a parallel world. Of course, there are some crazy people chasing them. Save your Audio Credit.
