Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.

I'm not a big fan of Amelia Peabody but I can listen to the stories from my library so they are well worth it. This story has a similar feel to it, a relaxing story where you know everything is going to turn out ok. If someone does die you won't know them too well so it won't matter too much. I like it enough to spend a credit on it and will probably get around to listening to whole series eventually.

Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson's sexy sire Gabriel has always been unpredictable, but the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow -- alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.

When you feel like kicking back and just having fun listening to a story this is a good series to turn to. Molly Harper does great character definition with Jane and you end up liking her a lot and rooting for her to win. If you like your heroins quirky, your vampires hunky and stories fun this is a good book for you.

This first episode was so good I'm waiting for all the rest so I can listen to them all at once, then I'll write a review on the last one. I only hope all the installments continue to be as good as the first.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

This book was o.k. and worth listening to but the premise was a little too weak. I would still pick up a Scalzi book and look forward to listening to it I just hope the next one has a better working premise.

Claire DeWitt is not your average private investigator. She has brilliant skills of deduction and is an ace at discovering evidence. But Claire also uses her dreams, omens, and mind-expanding herbs to help her solve mysteries, and relies on Détection—the only book published by the great and mysterious French detective Jacques Silette before his death.

I got this book through some sort of promotion or other. Always a good way to meet a new writer, though it's hit and miss. This book was good enough that I will keep choosing her books and I hope they are as good as this one.

The story moved along well and the character development was excellent. It isn't a supernatural story, the IChing and her dreams are just a portion of what she uses to solve the mystery and are related sort of in passing. It's a good choice for a listen.

Sam Vimes is on a well-deserved holiday. But for the commander of the City Watch, a vacation in the country is anything but relaxing. The balls, the teas, the muck - not to mention all that fresh air and birdsong - are more than a bit taxing on a cynical city-born and -bred copper. Yet a policeman will find a crime anywhere if he decides to look hard enough, and it’s not long before a body is discovered, and Sam - out of his jurisdiction, out of his element, and out of bacon sandwiches (thanks to his well-meaning wife) - must rely on his instincts, guile, and street smarts to see justice done.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

You would think Amazon could get this right. Unfortunately I didn't figure it out until the end. I even checked Part 1 again to see if I missed something because Steven King usually doesn't start in the middle. Kind of ruined it for me.

After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

I don't know why everyone said this book was so good. It was hard to follow. By the end, not much had happended. And the narrator just droned. I kept having to wake myself up to follow the story
