This is one of the book you would like if you have read Mailer's other books like The Naked And The Dead, The Armies of The Night, The Executioner's Song, Miami and the Siege of Chicago, Advertisements For Myself and etc.
Taking a cue from CS Lewis, a Devil who works for Satan narrates the early days of the Hitler. A lot is told about Alois' Hitler and his background.
This book is a mixture brilliance, excitement and sometimes dullness. I consider this book a great listen.
I found Pandora's Star far too long and in dire need of some stricter editing. There are too many characters and some of these characters and sub plots do not add anything to the main story. Even the important parts could have been tightened considerably, with many paragraphs of needless detail just getting in the way and making it a labourious read. I think the story could have been told in half the number of pages than what is.
I have read Mahabharata from several authors and every time I listen to the story some new thought always occur. I am very picky about authors who re-write what Vyasa has written. I downloaded this book due to my wife's insist and I am not at all disappointed.
The great epic has been told from Panchali's view point and the reader has done an excellent job.
I will recommend this book for anybody who are interested in religious mythologies and Mahabaratha itself is a very thought provoking story and this book will introduce you to that.
This was my first David Webber book and certainly will be last. The story is nothing but some Mix of Church Politics with history of Industrial Revolution with Some military strategies during world wars. All of these can be found on the net with little googling. Since this happens in the future in some other planet this has been classified as Sci-fi. Spare your credit or money. As some of the other reviewers are guessing, if there are any future parts to this book you don't need to look further just keep track of current news and thats what will be story of the future parts.
Very bad, Would not recommand to anybody. The only okay part of this listen is the reader even though he is not as good as George Guidall or Jim Dale, has tried to keep some pace to this boring listen.
This was not up to the par of his previous novels. Don;t waste your time and money(credit).
This was not John Grisham novel. Some christian missionary might have written this novel. There are characters that dont make sense in the plot. The Plot is very lame and anybody can guess the outcome. Charcters are not stong at all. This is the lousiest Grisham's book I bought. Save your money.
