"This is why one joins Audible"
As a Stephen King fan I love to listen to his books. Even though I am a member of the Los Angeles Library and can download books for free I cannot find enough of the books I love, like Mr. King. I was not disappointed in this book. This book is a Classic King with a great main character and great Bad guy. The performance was also very good. I believe this is one of his top ten written stories.
"If you love History and Rogues you will love Flash"
Flashman is an historical Forrest Gump. He is everywhere the English were during the 1800's. What makes Flashman even more unique is the books are written in first person and Flashman is the antitheses of a hero. He is cowardly, lying, adulterous and hysterical. I find myself laughing out loud and also going to Google to look up a character from history or a battle that Flashman is involved in.
The Flashman Books are a cross between the Sharpe stories and Forrest Gump. When you read a bunch of these books you find Flashman in Afghanistan, India, American West and South. The other really cool thing is that you meet many of the greatest characters in Western History in his books.
Flashman is surrounded by brave men in a last stand being assailed by Afghan fighters. The battle looks hopeless. Flashman is cowering while trying to surrender and give up the colors.
If moved means laughed then many
"Nothing Like the movie"
It is up in the air. I do not normally listen to non fiction. This book did grab my interest once I got past that the book was a historical narative of the years in LA in the police force.
It is a well written and well documented book that does not leave gaps in the telling of the LA police forces fight to keep the Mafia out of its City.
Easy to listen to. He is very clear in his reading.
Initially I was unhappy as it claims to be the basis of the Movie. As with Band of Brothers by by Ambrose as opposed to the HBO series it is not very much alike. Once I started to listen though, the book did catch me and I was not able to stop listening to it. Have truly enjoyed it. If you are interested in early Police history, LA or the Mafia this is a good book for you.
"A good story for those who love Spenser"
Though he is a new author for Spenser, he is the same old Spenser. For you old timers,we must suspend our knowledge. He had served in Korea (which makes him about 80, as well as Hawk and Susan). But there is much action and witty remarks. Maybe too many witty comebacks but still very fun
I like the relationship between the new client and Spenser
The fight sceen in the bar
I laughed out loud a number of times
There was talk of too much swearing and drinking. I liked that they used a part of Boston not known for its manners
"Such an interesting concept"
Magic is alive
I thought the characters were well developed and even though it was a scary idea most show their internal character. The antaganist is a great person to hate
When the hero must keep counting to ten to make sure he does not act with the power that he wants to control
be careful what you read, words are powerful
"This book will scare the poop out of you"
I thought the characters were well developed. They were complex and interesting. Not simple characters ( I do not think I would want to hang out with most of them) but you see they are have both a good and bad side. The Evil character is very chilling and goes to the depths of our fears when we were children. The bullies are great and very mean. They probably created as must anxt as the main evil character
the Shining grabs many of the Archetypes and causes the same type of anxiety as many of these characters draw. Dreamcatcher touches on the caring and committment to one another as the characters in this book have
the main hero, Stuttering Bill
The caring and sacrafice many of the characters show each other
I had just read this book within the year but the reader did such a good job I could not stop listening to it
"A story with only good native Americans"
I liked that you do get the feeling of what it would have been like in the Southwest when the native Americans outnumbered all Europeans.
I thought the characters were not well developed and all the native americans were good and all the europeans were bad.
I liked the genre, but I do not think I would read another book by this author
easy to listen
get through it as fast as possible
It was not poorly written but very predictable
"A good supliment to the original dark towers serie"
I listen to 85% of my books as compared to the 15% I read. Mr. King decided to read this book himself. Though I have heard him read other stories, I must agree the other listeners it would have been more enjoyable with a voice actor
I think Mr. King is one of the best and most enjoyable writers of our time. He is both thoughtful of what the character would be thinking and living as well as keeps his books moving. What makes him such a good writer is his committment to the story and his refusal to be rushed
No, not well
No, it is an excellent story but not an emotional one
i think if you have not read/listened to the other Dark Tower stories I think this is not a good story to start with
"a Christian book with an agenda"
No, I wish the reviews would have mentioned that the author was a strong christian with their agenda
Didn't get that far
No
The relationship with the girlfriend and the blatant religious agenda
"Stay with it and you will enjoy this story a lot"
There is a good mix of good and dispair; realism and supernatural, I had put it down after I finished the first part for a while. Once I finished part two I was hooked and listened everywhere I went.
The concept that life is a jigsaw puzzle and each piece fits together for a purpose.
I liked Josh the best. A slow acting hero who does what he thinks is best in each situation he is in
The Poem of Death
stick with it, it is worth it
"A truly Evil time in History"
This is a great book for a serious student in either history or the way that power corrupts Morals and character.
It is a bit dry but it is very interesting. To know that one person with some power and lots of cunning can enslave such a large part of the world and do whatever he chose to with the people of the area is really amazing. How the rest of the world did nothing while this large country was enslaved, killed and mutilated is really hard to believe.
The performance was very good. The material got a bit long and drawn out.
It would be a good movie but woudl need some Hollywood to take the depression out of it
I must believe that the ability to own and enslave a large part of the world, not just Belgium but France and England must be due to the racism of the time. Do not believe the world would have sat quiet if the people being enslaved were while
