Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

What made the experience of listening to The Potato Factory the most enjoyable?

The narrator's aussie accent, and wonderful renditions of the characters!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Potato Factory?

Mary's beating and destruction of her hands and the second one was when she got her talisman back aboard the convict ship-- GRIPPNG scenes of a formidable woman character-- she is wonderfully rendered.

What about Humphrey Bower’s performance did you like?

ALLOF IT! in all three books of the trilogy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me MAD! and EXHILARATED---- Mary's spirit is the one thread that runs through it all; My relationship to Ikey Solomon changed over the 3 books

    Any additional comments?

READ it, READ all three books, one after the other: The Potato Factory, Tommo and Hawk, and Solomon's Song, the trip is well worth it!

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

Would you consider the audio edition of Solomon's Song to be better than the print version?

I did not even consider reading the printed version; the performance would be so much better--- I don't have the narrator's aussie accent in my head and that made it a lovely performance! Made the story come ALIVE!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like David Solomon in this book-- his character was such an inconic nasty man----

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Mary is dying and Victoria establishes her stubbornness and personality.... loved that scene,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Wanted to, of course, but could not...

    Any additional comments?

Do read these books-- well worth it, I did not want the saga to end; these are well-written historically significant books with a storyline tied to a family of four generations. You will love these and remember them. I remember ALL of Bryce Courtnay;s books-- his stories stick with you...... in a way that some stories do not. I loved his piece where he says that * most people get their history from novels* well, I learned more about WWI and the Aussie fight @ Gallipoli from his third book in this trilogy than I ever did in high school history class which I considered to be the WORST class ever. I believe I will make an effort for my history teachers to be to take a leaf from Mr. Courtnay's *book* and teach high school history partly via novels and thus make history much more interesting!

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Would you consider the audio edition of Fifty Shades of Grey to be better than the print version?

Not reading the written version, I love the performed version, in fact I think performed books are awesome!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Kate best :-) she is the strongest woman character but she is a SUPPORTING character; her friend Ana knows that and is much different from her; but since Ana's character evokes such strong responses from me I know the author created her just right -- it is art after all.

What does Becca Battoe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Becca's reading of Ana is SUPERB! Just the right amount of youthful exuberance and actions. She brings Ana to life. Less so Christian, but to me? he is also a supporting character in Ana's travels and life experiences. Ana's the one I am most interested in and therefore Becca's reading of her is correct and enjoyable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Soft Core..... of course.

    Any additional comments?

This was an enjoyable foray into S&M, I learned a few things.... which was uncomfortable but just as they got uncomfortable the author swayed away into *just graduated college girl* stuff.....
