I had listened to Susan's narration once and was sorely disappointed with her performance on that book...I am glad to say she did a far better job with this series...it helps that this was a different kind of series based on generations.....I think the whole summoning the devil and all that was taking it to a different turn but it was a strong enjoyable and entertaining series.
Once again before buying this book I read the reviews. I saw alot of negative reviews, there were hints that the audio wasn't as good as should have been expected. I didn't have any issues with this though, loved the story and the narration. More hearts and flowers in this book. My most memerable moment was when Grey did the 180 and dropped on his knees to assume the role of a sub!, I was left wondering wtf? But of course he is 50 shades of fucked up!, Looking forward to the conclusion looks like Ana is going to be the damsel in distress!
I like many, bought this audio when it was first released. Of course being used to certain taste in my audio books I was completely turned off by the book and the narrator. In addition, this was before audiobooks offered the return policy. Recently, i have found myself looking for all favorites to listen to once more, when i stumbled on this book. I had completely forgotten I had this book; i figured since i spent my credit on this let me just hear it through to the end.
If you are attempting to read this book, have an open mind. Quite frankly it is an erotica, this might be a deal breaker for many people. I have read a few reviews calling this a "twilight spin-off" or similar to twilight. If this is what is driving you to by this book don't waste your credit. There is nothing supernatural or even remotely close between the two other that 50 shades refers to Seattle, Vancover, Portland area. And if like me you live in Seattle, well, how you take the description of our city well, I leave that to you.
I don't want to give away much on the book but know that it has the boy meet girl scenario. Alot of sex (terms that even I had to google!). The guy in the book has some serious "issues". The girl in the book is the defination of confusing bordering on annoying. But if you have an open mind and keep with it, hopefully you will get into the book and be entertained as I was.
As far as the author. I think she has a sense of humor. Yes, at time she is repetitive but this is a first person narration, the character was bound to have repetitive pharses and quiet frankly I smiled every time "laterz babe" was used. The book is entertaining and there is more happening in the book other than sex. If you have ever been in a relationship where you were frustrated and you didn't understand what you are feeling and why you are feeling a certain way this book goes there, however, don't expect a drastic change at the end hence the trilogy. This story needs to move with time in order to be credible and relatable in my opinion.
Finally the narrator, well like i said at first i did not connect with her, however, after i listened through a few minutes she finally managed to get into my imagination. The way she sounds, her narration, her pace defined Ana in my mind. I love the fact that this nararror is constant on all three books that is awesome! I think i might try her in other books. I am more connected with Rosalyn Landor or Anna Fields and such hence connecting with Becca was key if i was going to make it to the end of the book.
Overall, I know there are some really bad reviews so far, but if you sample the book, research the book first then you will have an idea what to expect. This might not be the book for you. I personally loved it. I loved the story, wished for maybe a little less sex in the book but i was connected and entertained and as such worth 4 stars. I will definately be buying the next book!
story was so predictable, halfway through I was bored. The lead guy was so horribly portraid- nothing to do with the and more to do with the writers imagination. I think the only reason I read this from cover to cover was the narrator. She isn't the best but she was bareable.
I just read the second book... The first book still remains my best book..... Despite this I love the story of Mac though he was supposed to be the easily loved of the brother's he didn't get portraited as such.... The story was different....funny at time....but from start to finish we knew what the end would be..... This is a story of fighting for love....hurrying the past and learning to love right. I would recommend to read this book. It's a great series.
Angela Dawes is one of those narrators that u either fall in love with or u utterly hate..... She grew on me.... I bought this book a few months ago but did not like her narration at first.... Then just a week ago I noticed I had multiple books purchased but never read.... Its a good thing I gave this book a second chance.... As a narrator she captivated me and I was pleasantly surprised.... To top it off the book was no ordinary romance..... But my the end I was in love with Ian myself..... I just settled to the second book... I hope Mac's story is as good as this! If you are waivering don't; this is a great buy.
For a year now I have had this on my wish list but dodged it because of the reviews. I LOVE Rosalyn Landor....it was hard to believe that the narration was that poor.... I have 2 other Julie Garwood books that were great but she is not my favorite author..... Finally I got to a point where the new releases were not used to my standard....I was looking through my wish list and settled on finally getting through this book and hoping I can make it to the end... Well I got to the end in one day! I could not put it down... Yes it's not her strongest book... But the narrator does and awesome job and the story is good, entertaining and some humorous parts! I would say this is one book that did not get the best reviews but is really a great read.
I took a risk to listen to this book as I just started getting entertained by Susan's narration...however... I did not read this book past the first 30 minutes.... It was slow.... I may try it later but I really doubt I will get to the end.
It is really hard for me to accept keeping secrets from each other. To me the heroine was a little to easy...she forgave her beau after learning of a child he fathered shortly after they separated or her sister stealing her identity.... And the hero came out as a bit soft. However the narrator was ok. I could distinguish the voices and I made to the end because of her.
The heroine in this book was way to whiny at times and so ignorant. The hero was not what I would call romantic. But I went along with this book. The narrator was ok. I did not particularly like ther narration of the hero.. She made him sound so slow and his conversations wer choppy. I was read the book and took me about 3 days to get through it. This was not the worst book I have listened to but far from the best... So I gave it 3 stars.
