Refreshing, intriguing and romantic.

What I enjoyed most about the storyline was that you could virtually replace the two main characters with male and female; two females; or interracial couple. The point being that LOVE was the ultimate connection and the growth of their love for one another AND the love story was told in unison with a murder mystery. A nice blend the story and characters.

Matthew's voice was a little to mature/older gentlemen sounding for the character.

Don't worrry no spoilers here...I did both -CRY @ the funeral...how touching with the flag and LAUGH the sister and sister-in-law were a hoot!

If you shy away from lovemaking m/m you may not enjoy this book but if you are open to LOVE for all genders, and a mystery to boot -- I BELIEVE you will enjoy listening to this story.

It RANKS but not at the top -- my opinion only …although in all honestly I’m partial to some of my favorites – Holter Graham _ Acheron and Born of Silence & Kristen Potter _Live to Tell and Pleasure:Shawdowdwellers series BUT not taking anything from Chris…the potential is there with this series.

"Well Done" Chris Patton -- not everyone can take an audio reader to that special place – exquisite listening pleasure.

I will be the first to admit, I wasn’t sure what I would be getting from this m/m audible selection but let me say “pleasantly surprised “ doesn’t even touch it. Adrien with an “e” is a refreshing character uniqueness of someone who is genuinely comfortable in his own skin.

As the prime suspect in the murder case of his friend, Adrien so try’s to do the right thing; be there for his friends, be respectful to the law...BUT he soon realizes survival for the fittest works best AND Adrien with an “e” is in it to survive. He doesn’t always make the best choices but when you are desperate for the truth – and you know the truth that will set you free…sometimes common sense doesn’t make sense. His multiple runs in with Detective Riordan gives the reader the insight that perhaps there is more to the Detectives story as well.

Surprising character in this book was his mother whom he refers to a “Lisa”. Since I’m a mom with grown children, I get when your children, would love for you to put a filter on your comments. The sprinkling of Lisa and Adrien’s exchanges were delightfully funny.

I was so excited when I realized this was a series and so disappointed that book 2 wasn’t on Audible. However, since I was already addicted -- I moved on to traditional reading and purchased the entire series. If you like Lanyon’s style – this series is a MUST READ and well worth it. Lanyon is truly a gifted writer...looking forward to so much more.

A classic “CLUE” game whodunit very well written. The relationship between Perry and Nick grows into something unexpected. For Perry, I thought it was a coming of age – reaffirming his manhood and adulthood all in one. For Nick, letting go and embracing who he is, what he wants and eventually what warms his heart to complete him.

At first Perry seems somewhat fragile but he is not – just a little naive and inexperienced but in all reality he is just young. Nick on the other hand – X- Navy Seal has been there; done that and has very little patience for anyone let alone a mystery.

I love the “target practice” scene – ANY questions ??? LOL

A very touching romantic story

This is one of the few Lanyon books that I’ve read (listen to) where I felt more would have been better. The premise of the story was interesting and the characters were very well suited for one another. However the relationship between Colin and Septimus was lacking the build up that allowed me as reader to believe the lover, my executioner relationship.

The narrator drew me in. At first I wasn’t sure his quiet lulling was going to take me to that place in which I think every good narrator has the gift to do. The place, that allows you to close your ends, and melt away to the time, place and emotion of the characters.

Lanyon came to the shooting range but missed the bull-eyes.

The audiobook cover-I’ll keep it brief but we must address the lack of resemblance’ the audio cover picture had to the Jason that we’ve all grown to be deeply intrigued about. He looks like college jock...again with absolutely no sense of mystery swirling around him like we have come to expect from the black wing angel. Finally, no tattooed face – part of what’s makes Jason, Jason-- Really?!? He is one of Raphael’s SEVEN.

Joyce Bean or Sophie Eastlake- The narrator? I can’t quite put my finger on it but she grated on my last nerve with her voice on this one. I liked Justine as the narrator for the first 4 books of the series – just something missing with her portrayal of Jason and Mahiya.

Stormy Reading_ Full disclosure...I must say that I absolutely LOVE Nalini Singh and her writing. She has an unbelievable talent to write exotic and fantasy laced love stories and turned them into what I would call epic Saga’s for the paranormal junkie. She has transformed the paranormal romance status quo into a world of transcendent adventures with the Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series.Without being too harsh, Ms. Singh completely missed the mark on this one. The storyline was middle of the road, almost too far fetch to make sense. The connection between Jason and Mahiya was forced; there was no true buildup of anger, love, and trust. As readers, we are expected to believe...as a spurned princess she basically intrigued Jason with her astute ways and he immediately begins to think, I like this young woman and...eventually honor bound decides he would give up his life for her. I found myself counting down the time to end the story. It actually took me 2 weeks to finish when normally; I wrap up an audio in 4-days and read her books in 1-day. I hope she takes a creative writing break and really focuses on the next storyline whether that be Venom and Sorrow, Aodhan or Janvier and Ashwini…looking forward to it.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading the Oak Knoll series but I will say this one was not my favorite. I originally was excited for Tony Mendez. He was a real gentleman in Secrets to the Grave with Sara so I thought he would be rewarded in this one. The female detective was a little to vulgar – hard core for me and quiet honestly for Tony too, if you stayed attuned to his character throughout the series. The throw in at the end was contrived and unnecessary at that point- Tony deserved better. The storyline was flat in the sense that it really didn’t explain WHY she would put her daughter at risk by moving to confront her other daughter’s alleged “guilty as charged” abductor and would-be killer. I love the daughters’ character – strengthen as the story went on…to bad her mother couldn’t do the same. A middle of the road storyline for a great suspense writer.

I’m a huge fan of Lisa Gardner; she always delivers on an intriguing and captivating storyline. She keeps you guessing or at times second guessing. I really thought about what I would do and how I would prepare if a killer was stalking me with a specific date to commit the crime. Would I disconnect from the people I love? Could I trust the people I love? Do you place your trust in strangers? Are they really strangers? I guess it boils down to Flight or Fight. I choose FIGHT, and I hope you would too!
