Kitty Norville is a midnight-shift DJ for a Denver radio station---and a werewolf in the closet. Sick of lame song requests, she accidentally starts "The Midnight Hour," a late-night advice show for the supernaturally disadvantaged. After desperate vampires, werewolves, and witches across the country begin calling in to share their woes, her new show is a raging success.

The character of Kitty is one that I immediately liked and this had me hooked into the story right away. The narration is great - good pace, beautiful enunciation, and the voice is perfect for the spunky radio host - deep and smooth, but beautifully clear.

This book has a strong plot and is written with a simple, clear language that is a perfect foil to the characters. Definitely worth picking up, and a perfect summer listen!

Soon-to-be college freshman Evie Claremont had hoped that once she'd arrived on Crestwood's campus, the nightmare that she'd been having would go away. It hasn't. She may be an inexperienced 17-year-old, but she's grounded... sane. She looks for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he's near, she feels an attraction to him - a magnetic kind of force pulling her toward him.

This series is a great listen, and I quickly picked up the rest after finishing this one. A great plot, fun characters and narration that portrays each well, and sets off the storyline without overpowering it, as some narrations can. Evie's evolution into something new and unique is wonderful to follow along with. I think the only complaint I can make about the series is that her own personality and character doesn't seem to evolve with her changes. I don't get a strong sense of why she is such a riveting character, outside of the simple "rule" that angels are drawn to her - and not all are. So it's a strange dichotomy.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys young adult-style fiction with a definite supernatural twist. I'd listen to this again.

Six months ago, the world ended. The Baugh Contagion swept across the planet. Its victims were left twitching, adrenalized cannibals that quickly became know as Junkies. Civilization crumbled as people created isolated safe havens to hide from the infected... and the possibly infected. Now, as society nears a tipping point, lives will intersect and intertwine across two days in a desolate city.

This enjoyable collection of 4 intertwined stories stand alone brilliantly, yet flow into each other just enough to immediately draw you into the next. The characters are realistically rendered and led me to want more - this is a great series to whet the appetite of zombie fans! I also found the short-story very convenient for busy lives! (just had to throw that in there!)

Della had the perfect life - the family, a boyfriend, and a bright future - until she was turned, and abandoned by everyone she loves. She takes refuge at Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with paranormal powers. It’s where she and her best friends, Kylie and Miranda, heal their heartbreak with laughter, and where Della is training to be a paranormal investigator - and she refuses to be distracted.

CC Hunter takes her brilliant Shadow Falls series and focuses this time on Della, the vampire. After listening to the others and Katie's excellent narration of them, this followed int he same great path. The character of Della comes shining through and is so consistent with the past stories that it is easy to slip into her tale. She is abrasive and sometimes rude, yet her prickliness doesn't prevent one from liking her. A very enjoyable book!

Jacky Faber, having been called a pirate and had a price put on her head by the King of England, has no choice but to stay out of sight. Hoping for a safe hiding place, she returns to the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston, but the calm doesn't last long. On a class field trip to Boston Harbor, the girls are abducted and forced into the hold of the Bloodhound, a ship bound for the slave markets on the Barbary Coast where they will be put up on the auction block and sold into Arab harems.

Jacky Faber comes to life once again with a whole new saga! Jacky and her school mates are trapped in the belly of a ship, and the zany adventures continue, despite most of them being confined to one room! It is a testament to the author's creativity that she can craft such a gripping tale with such limited scenery. The characters are all too human and very realistically portrayed. The story of course, isn't plausible, but that's what a great story is all about - making the impossible happen and pull you along in the tale! And well, with Jacky, anything could - and does - happen. A great continuation of a fantastic series. Don't miss it!

Jacky Faber, Bloody Jack, is back, and this time, she's facing a situation far worse than a ship full of murderous pirates. Curse of the Blue Tattoo, L. A. Meyer's sequel to the enormous popular Bloody Jack, is just as bawdy and entertaining as the original.

I love it when the rest of the series holds up to the standards set by the first. The crazy antics of Jacky continue, and her ability to land in possible situations - and make them seem actually plausible - makes this a captivating novel! I was dubious on getting this one as the main description is so brief it seemed a cop-out, but don't be fooled - this book is so fantastic it doesn't need an elaborate introduction. Katherine rocks it like no one else can, and brings a vivid and entertaining story to messy, zany, heartwarming life!

The land of Terre d'Ange is a place of unsurpassed beauty and grace. The inhabiting race rose from the seed of angels and men, and they live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt. Phèdre nó Delaunay was sold into indentured servitude as a child. Her bond was purchased by a nobleman, the first to recognize that she is one pricked by Kushiel's Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one.

    Story

Start at the beginning of this series! This book is brilliant all by itself, but I really encourage readers to start with Kushiel's Dart. Jacqueline Carey has a brilliance that to me, is unparalleled in modern times. She crafts each sentence with an evocative mastery that is breathtaking. And out of her mind comes a parallel world that draws together elements of common cultures in a fantasy that is truly uncommon. Set aside prejudices and perceptions, and this book will pull you into a tale of political intrigue, impossible love, sacrifice, and the best villainess ever conceived (IMHO!).

And Anne Flosknik nails it. I wasn't sure about her as a narrator for my favourite book series, but her performance was exceptional!

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

Katie Lightfoot's tired of loafing around as the assistant manager of an Ohio bakery. So when her aunt Lucy and uncle Ben open a bakery in Savannah's quaint downtown district and ask Katie to join them, she enthusiastically agrees. While working at the Honeybee Bakery - named after Lucy's cat - Katie notices that her aunt is adding mysterious herbs to her recipes. Turns out these herbal enhancements aren't just tasty - Aunt Lucy is a witch and her recipes are actually spells!

This was a very easy listen, and one that was strangely realistic for a book about magic. The characters came across as authentic, with all their faults and appeal, and the story drew in just enough of the right elements - mystery, intrigue, romance and humour - to make for a satisfying treat! The narration was well done, and the two-recipe PDF was a lovely complement! I enjoyed that the setting was a bakery with a little bit extra.

Life as a ship's boy aboard HMS Dolphin is a dream come true for Jacky Faber. Gone are the days of scavenging for food and fighting for survival on the streets of 18th-century London. Instead, Jacky is becoming a skilled and respected sailor as the crew pursues pirates on the high seas. There's only one problem: Jacky is a girl. And she will have to use every bit of her spirit, wit, and courage to keep the crew from discovering her secret.

I ripped through this one, and then immediately picked up more of this series. I can't express just how terrific this book was - I have made others listen to the incredible performance by Katherine Kellgren. The story was fantastic all by itself, but the narration was what made this book and series come to life. The indomitable character of Jacky Faber is impossible not to like, with her sense of drama, showmanship, cleverness and unfailing loyalty. The descriptions of maritime life in the 1700's is vivid and believable, while the series of events Jacky tumbles through is so impossible, I just had to shake my head and enjoy the ride. And it's a wild ride - one you won't regret "hopping aboard" and joining Jacky in!
