Would you listen to Lost Worlds of South America again? Why?

This was a very good and informative audio book. I liked everything about this lecture series..... except one trivial matter.... He states on a few occasions that these native peoples discovered certain things "totally on their own". Since we don;t know how most of these people arrived in the new world, we don't know how they learned to carve stone, smelt metal, etc.. I believe there were dozens if not hundreds of sea fearing people who ended up in south America. They would have brought and dispersed their knowledge. But that is a minor quibble. He does give some of his theories and opinions, which I appreciated. I found his comments on Pre INCA stonework very compelling. This is a must listen for any Peru Traveler. as an aside; 3 friends and I were going to Peru two years ago but LAN airlines gave our seats away to their employees at LAX. Remembering that painful experience saddened me . When I go to Peru next year (on DELTA or UNITED) I will listen to this again. He brings Peru to life. Definitely worth the purchase.

Science starts to get interesting when things don't make sense. Science's best-kept secret is that there are experimental results and reliable data that the most brilliant scientists can neither explain nor dismiss. If history is any precedent, we should look to today's inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. Michael Brooks heads to the scientific frontier to meet 13 modern-day anomalies and discover tomorrow's breakthroughs.

I enjoyed this book. I liked how Michael Brooks wasn't afraid to delve into topics like cold fusion. He comes across as a very intelligent and unbiased author. If you like science you will like this book.

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is a good book, but I have yet to finish it because the narrator is unbearable! I'm sure she is a nice lady, but she ruined this book for me. If Paula Dean is appealing to you, then get this book. Fyi I love the South, I lived in Mississippi for a year, and I enjoyed the people, but I didn't enjoy this at all!

When a shattered kayak and camping gear are found on an uninhabited island, they reignite a mystery surrounding a shocking act of protest. Five months earlier, logger-turned-activist Grant Hadwin had plunged naked into a river in British Columbia's Queen Charlotte Islands, towing a chainsaw. When his night's work was done, a unique Sitka spruce, 165 feet tall and covered with luminous golden needles, teetered on its stump. Two days later it fell.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I loved John Vaillant's book "the tiger" . This book, does not match up to that book in my opinion. He does a great job telling the story, but it's just too long. There is way to much bashing of the logging industry. I am a tree hugger by nature, I believe trees have spirits, and I liked how he discribed this, the First Nation people, and all the characters. He also does a good job discribing the horrible practices of some in the logging industry. But he keeps going back to bashing the logging industry. Toward the end of the book, I felt like he was trying to manipulate the reader and fill pages. Get his book The Tiger, but wait on this one until it's discounted. Then listen to the first 75% and move on.
