The narration of this one has NO affect. It was so bad that I downloaded it on my nook so I could read instead of listen. I will never download a book narrated by this guy again.
Loved this. Love Kevin's narration except, DUDE, forecastle is pronounced folk'sle! Book is excellent, though.
I'm really enjoying the plot of this novel, but I feel I'm doing so in spite of the narration. When the narrator is doing straight narration, it is fine, but when he takes on the voices of the characters, he manages to make them all unappealing. The protagonist and her friends come off shrill and sound more like drag queens being dramatic than like college women. The parents sound annoyingly snobbish and entitled, the male characters annoying in various other ways. It is a shame, I actually like this guy fine as an actor, but I don't think narration is his forte. I also can't help but be irritated by the multiple mispronunciations of names of people and streets in the text. Providence is a real place with real characters. I don't think it would have been so hard to talk to anyone who had every lived there to figure out how to properly pronounce Buddy Cianci's name or Bowen St.
