"Vorkosigan Rules!"
Fantastic characters & storytelling.
Miles Vorkosigan. One of the best thought out characters I have ever read. Miles uses intelligence and determination in a world dominated by strength and aggression.
Miles but I could say any of them. Grover Gardner is the best and the Vorkosigan saga would not be the same without his narration.
Mark's longing for a name and identity of his own.
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading or listening to this series, do it now. You will not be disappointed. These books are some of my very favorite and have something for everyone. Adventure, suspense, mystery, drama, romance, humor...I could go on and on. This series is a rare gem amongst series written today that are formulaic and get pumped out like they are on an assembly line. Now, go out and get them!
"Finally! Chalker's Best Series!"
This is the first book in a wonderfully imaginative series that takes me back to my early teenage years when I first discovered it. Chalker creates a weird and detailed setting for the novel and the characters are memorable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys intelligent science fiction stories.
"The Master of Science Fiction!"
This is one of my favorite Heinlein stories. The characters and action are amazing and the narration is perfect for this story. If you have never read any Robert Heinlein books, this one is a can't miss. I would recommend anything he has written without question. We don't have authors like him any longer.
"Another Great Mike Talbot Adventure!"
Mark Tufo has found a new and fresh take on zombie fiction and his main character, Mike Talbot, is just an average guy with faults and issues which really helps you to connect to him and the stories. Every book in this series was a great read/listen and I would completely recommend them to listeners that like zombies, adventure, suspense, humor or emotional stories. There is something here for everyone. Additionally, the narrator for these books is amazing. He completely gets Mike Talbot and characterizes him perfectly. I hope there are going to be more stories to come. This climax to the series doesn't disappoint...I couldn't stop listening!
"Fantastic Adventure!!"
100%. If you are a lover of great adventure stories that are witty and have great characters then you will love this book.
The main characters, Royce and Hadrian. They are humorous and sharp-tongued master thieves but they have the hearts of heroes.
The freeing of Ezra Hardin. I loved his dialogue.
Royce and Hadrian taking on the mission for the girl in the second part of the book.
If you are looking for a sweeping epic like Lord of the Rings, you won't find it here. But, if you want rousing tales of adventure with lovable scoundrels who are really heroes in disguise and action that is very well paced, I would highly recommend this book. I found my self smiling and laughing from start to finish.
"Vance Is A Master Of Words"
Absolutely. Jack Vance's writing isn't like mere fiction, it is like reading a long lost ancient scroll. His style is timeless and also brings up a feeling that it was written eons ago.
Turjan. He is the keeper of all the spells that remain.
The confrontation with Chun the Unavoidable.
Fantasy The Way It Is Supposed To Be!
Vance is an amazing storyteller and if you enjoy well written thoughtful fantasy you will enjoy his writings. Also, if you grew up playing role-playing games, you will recognize many details that were taken directly from Vance's writings.
"Finally We Get Jack Chalker!"
If you want a good; fun fantasy novel, it is a great little read. This is not epic fantasy but there are some great elements to the story and a lot of poking fun at fantasy cliches.
Magic Kingdom for Sale by Terry Brooks
He is a good narrator but not my favorite.
There are many funny moments in the book. I love Chalker's writing style.
Audible definitely needs to produce the Well of Souls series by Jack Chalker. It is a better series than this one and would be very popular. This book brings back memories of being a 13 year old kid exploring this world for the first time. I would definitely recommend it.
"Great Memories From My Teenage Years!"
I first read this book as a kid and I loved the idea of it being based on kids playing a D&D like game and getting transported into it.
Dream Park by Larry Niven. It is another great example of people playing a role-playing game in real life.
No.
Fantasy Becomes Reality!
If you are a lover of dungeons and dragons or role-playing games you will enjoy this book. I hope the other books in this series will be available soon.
"Miles Hits His Stride!"
Absolutely. These early Miles Vorkosigan stories might just be my favorite. Unadulterated adventure at its best.
Miles. He has qualities in his personality that anyone can relate to and his intelligence and wit are the keys to his success.
Grover Gardner is probably the best narrator in the business and he gives Miles a voice. Gardner gets the sarcasm, wit and humor that Bujold was writing into the character of Miles Vorkosigan and delivers a pitch perfect performance.
Yes. This book and series stands out amongst its competition and is truly original and just so much better than all of the generic, two dimensional and cookie cutter sci-fi that has been produced in recent years.
Do yourself a favor and read this series. You will absolutely not regret it.
"Miles Vorkosigan is Brilliant!"
Absolutely. The Vorkosigan Saga is wonderful and the narration is perfect.
Miles of course. He is really one of the most fun, interesting and fully realized main characters I have ever read. You will fall in love the stories and root for Miles from the first book.
Grover Gardner is amazing. He absolutely gets the sarcasm and wryness in Bujold's writing and gives uniqueness to every character.
I laughed out loud several times throughout the book and also had real emotional investment in what happened to the characters in the book.
If you are a fan of witty well written stories that are original, you have to give these books a try.
