Clare's Village Blend coffee beans are being used to create a new java love potion: a "Mocha Magic Coffee," billed as an aphrodisiac. The product, expected to rake in millions, will be sold exclusively on Aphrodite's Village, one of the most popular online communities for women. But at its launch, one of the website's editors is murdered. Clare is convinced a bitter killer wants the secret formula. Can she catch who's gone loco for mocha?

What would have made Murder by Mocha better?

A believable story, better written characters, a consistency editor, an editor in general ...
    - the police doesn't include civilians in their investigations if they can avoid it. They don't share information about ongoing cases, they don't let civilians question the criminals, etc ... highly irritating.
    - Claire repeatedly says she's not happy with her bodyshape (too much curves, not at all perfect, blabla) - but the bodybuilder guy at the ICE mistakes her for a fitness model?
    - All of the protagonists switch between self-assured and completely insecure, without warning.
    - Claire confides to Matteo that she spied on her daughter for all of her adolescence - not ok.

I could go on and on, but this book probably shouldn't have been published in the first place.

What could Cleo Coyle have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I don't know if there is anything she could have done, other than not write this book.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator has a good voice, good pronunciation, she was easy to understand and follow and it's not her fault that the book is an utter waste of time and money.

What character would you cut from Murder by Mocha?

Where to start ... Alicia, Maya, Aphrodite, all the very bitchy arrogant "ladies" that behave like total lunatics. Oh wait, then I'd have to cut Claire too - who walks into a trap like this without informing the police?? "come alone, only you will be admittet" - yeah sure ...

    Any additional comments?

I bought this in the "this is the first of a series" sale - in fact is book number 10 in this series, which accounts for some of the confusion at the start of the book.

Emma is content. She's got a promising career in front of her, great friends, and a pretty amazing family. But her love life has been a little lacking lately. That's when fate steps in, and she crashes into a tall, dark, and handsome man - Teren Adams. He’s single, successful, an extraordinary gentleman, but he’s also secretive. And some of his secrets are more unusual than most people’s. For instance, he’s a "little bit" vampire. He has fangs, incredible hearing, unbelievable speed, and, on occasion, he enjoys drinking a steaming cup of blood. But he’s also very much alive.

    Ada says: "No,just no."
    "Stupid, self-absorbed, half-porn, pseudo-vampire"

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Getting a better written story? Where people actually have personality? This book feels like a slightly more porn-y version of Twilight, no story, no personalities, no plot, no nothing

Would you ever listen to anything by S. C. Stephens again?

    NO

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Piper Goodeve?

No one, as this story shouldn't have been published as a book, let alone an audiobook. Piper isn't at fault, with this material she couldn't have done any better.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

NO. A whiney, brainless, self-absorbed girl falls in love with a little-bit-vampire, who is brooding and sinister and about to die and needs to make a baby before. Is S.C. Stephens a pseudonym for Stepheny Meyer? This book is about equally as lifeless as Twilight ...

    Any additional comments?

I want my credit back for this garbage. And I'd like to question the sanity of the Audible staff who put this out there as a fun, light summer listen, paranormal romance ... There's no romance in it, it's just badly written porn. It's not fun, it's not light, it's a desperate story about a 19 year old agreeing to have a baby with a vampire just to continue his "line" - whom he seems to loathe anyway ... *argh* Why aren't there any good books anymore?
