"Great story but very unfortunate narration."
After a couple of decades (and more) I decided to revisit the great land of Amber. Unfortunately the regal persona of Corwin has been reduced to sounding like a 100 lbs. teenager who just discovered coffee. Narration is terribly rushed and simply does not match what I think a prince of Amber would sound like...maybe it's just me. The voice acting is not that great...the characters seem to take on almost a comic tone.
The story is of course wonderful which is why I will try and suffer through at least the next book in the series.
Boy...to be honest just about everything. I would still encourage folks to give it a try since it's a wonderful tale.
"Not my cup of tea..."
Different narrators. Interesting characters. Written as a novel not a screenplay. Nothing in this book was engaging for me.
Unsure
Over the top without good dramatizations.
Not really...story was just hashed out from other books without anything original. Characters were boring.
Had higher hopes for this...disappointed.
"I want more!"
I am hooked...I just loved this whole series. Although perhaps not the greatest novel to be written it grabbed me right away and I just held on for the ride. This is a FUN journey and I want to sign up with MHI today! Good job Larry!
"Couldn't stop listening."
Did not read the book.
Great character interaction and dialog on the roof for Friday sunsets and in general. Not only did you feel that you knew that characters but that they were real with real dialog.
After getting used to his speech patterns the voices became very distinct.
Lot's of fun and full of suspense. Typically I use audio books to fill the gap while I drive to and from work but this story had me hooked and I found myself listening while not in my car. Spent a day at the beach just kicking back and listening while the kids played.
"Sets a standard!"
The narrator made this book come alive for me. He sets a very high bar for me now when it comes to audio books. Read this book when it came out and loved it but enjoyed it so much more this time simply due to the narrator's ability to be different characters and consistant with his voices. I found myself wanting to purchase anything read by Joe Barrett simply because of how amazing of a job he did with this book.
"Great book...poor narration..."
Loved the book...read it years agao and now on audio. Unlike some folks I found the narrator to be almost painful at times and had to set it down on a couple of occassions because of it. Voice acting was terrible. I wonder if the narrator even read the book before recording. Being from the NW, I cringed everytime he read OMSI (Oregon museum of science and industry)as O.M.S.I.! We don't actually say the initials, we call it "OMZEE".
"Can't listen to it..."
I love Dave Barry's writing but I found the narrator so annoying that I couldn't listen to this for more than 10 minutes. He acts as if it's either a bad comedy sketch or an infomercial...too bad.
