This book is entertaining. If you are looking for a steamy, sexy story than this should work just fine for you. I didn't really like the male narrator - but I love Kate Rudd. She is the reason I bought the book. The story is predictable, and cheesy at times, but entertaining.
I love all of Abbi's other series, especially the Sea Breeze books. This story was ok - just hard to get into. I wanted to care, I really did, but the story line fell short somehow. I really had a hard time with the whole idea of her loving "death", and the voodoo world creeped me out. The narrator did a great job with the main character, but she ruined the other characters. She made Miranda and G completely irritating. I don't think I am going to finish the series....
I loved this story. It had the perfect balance of romance & reality. I also love anything Kate Rudd narrates so that was a benefit to the story as well. Their love story was fun and I love how it blossomed throughout the book. Loved it! Great read!
I'm still giving the book 4 stars even though the ending was not okay with me. Seriously. I won't say anymore so that I don't ruin it for those who have not read it yet. This is a great series and it is well written and the characters go through so much together. Divergent is my favorite of the trilogy, and I highly recommend you read it. I love Emma Galvin - she does an amazing job. Just be prepared for an unexpected turn in book three.
I would have probably enjoyed this book way more if it didn't go to crap at the end. I can't say much without giving away the book, but seriously Jamie? I really need to know why you ended it like that. The narrators were pretty good, although the guy who was Nathan could have been better. I was also not aware that the book was totally about Zombies....., turning into zombies, killing zombies, running from zombies, etc. If you like that, then this book will entertain you.
Loved Poison Princess, and this book is better. It has more action and more characters. I listened to it in two days. And now I am pissed because I have to wait forever for book 3. I love the twists and turns that take place with Jack and Evie, and then with Death and Evie. It definitely goes in a direction I wasn't expecting - but I loved it! Love love love Emma Galvin too.
I listened to this because a friend recommended it. I didn't love it as much as she did...but it was well written and the narrators did a great job, and I am glad I took a chance and listened to it even after I found out what it was about. It is a story that definitely makes you think...think about your own life and aspirations and if you are living your best life. Will is a quadrapalegic - and he is very unhappy with his life and doesn't want to live anymore. Enter, Lu to the rescue. She takes a job as his caretaker hired by his mother not for any special skills (she has none) but for her sweet energy and refreshing personality. It is an uncommon love story that is sweet and realistic, however I wish the book explored the love story more and that it went a little bit deeper. ***SPOILER ALERT**** I was torn about the ending - it definitely didn't end like I thought it would. I was torn because I understood Will's reasoning with his final choice, but it also left me feeling sad and mad at the same time. I wanted Lu to be enough for him, but I understood why Will didn't want Lu to "settle" to be with him. He wanted more for her.
It took the entire book before I felt okay about where Emma was going to end up. I love her and Evan's love story. I loved that is wasn't always perfect, and they weren't always together. Honestly it wouldn't have been realistic for Evan to be the only guy Emma was to ever have a relationship with. I'm glad they were a part for a time, but I'm more glad that she realized she wasn't whole without him. I'm glad that they were able to forgive each other and be there for each other. I really got lost in this series. I loved how I felt like I really knew these characters. All of them, and the ending makes this long journey worth while.
You will have to start listening to this book thirty seconds after you finish book one because of the cliffhanger ending of Reason to Breathe.....make sure you have this book purchased before you finish book 1! This book is about Emma moving past what happened with her Aunt Carol and then trying to mend her broken relationship with her mom. She moves in with her mom. In a lot of ways the stuff that happens between her and her mom was harder for me to handle than the abuse in book 1. Her mom is volatile and still abusing alcohol and drugs, and I really wanted things to end up differently than they did. It was almost too much to imagine one person going through. It's heart wrenching and emotional.
I liked this series, but I didn't love it like I love the Mortal Instrument series and the Hunger Games series. I finished all three books and I have no regrets. It is entertaining and a good listen, but I wasn't as invested in it as I was in the other books I mentioned. It is misisng that ooomph factor that makes you need to know what happens next, and actually care.
