This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to and so clever. What a smart and interesting plot and who would have thought that such a benign plot could be so exciting. I loved every minute of this. The reader is very engaging and changes her voice so naturally to depict different characters. So good. Well done!
This book gave me much enlightenment about the management of family assets. I had never thought about these issues to this extent before. In some ways the book has given me a real sense of urgency to actually address this important issue.
Overall, I found the book to be exceptionally helpful. This is without doubt, the best summary of asset management for families that I have come across. Well done.
I am a fifteen year teenage girl and I found this book very upfront and thought provoking. I enjoyed the book immensely and thought the characters were realistic. Every girl or guy wants to be popular at some point in their high school years. But this book represents that not everything in the popular group is as fun and exciting as it seems to be. In this book it demonstrates how two girls who clearly wanted to be popular force themselves to change their behaviour in order to fit into the popular group. However, in the end they leave this group in order to be true to themselves. This saves them from a life that could have ended in tragedy.
I recommend this book.
I am a teenage girl and read this book and it made me think about things I had not thought about before. It was a type of book that I could not put down as it was so engaging. I thought the girl was a bit self-centred and she annoyed me at times because she could not see the perpectives of people that truly cared about her. However, I think people should think before they say hurtful things to others. You never know how much your words can affect a person - even to the extent that they commit suicide.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book however, I was intrigued at the blind spots that emerge when viewing the future from such a US perspective. Living in Australia, I guess I see Asia, America and Europe in a very different way. Some assumptions about the people are not consistent with my reality and my knowledge and experience of these regions. Having said this, I was very impressed with the sheer depth of knowledge of George Friedman
This powerful book, set in Western Australia is very intelligent and multi-layered. It tells the story of a young lad who is coerced to act in a manner that puts him at risk. The characters in the story are highly believable and not stereotyped. I enjoyed the unfolding of the book, the richness and depth of the text and the surprising conclusion. It really exposed some of the deep concerns of youth and their exploitations by dysfunctional families.
If you are interested in understanding some of the real concerns of Australian life in a small outback town - this tale will resonate.
This book was selected by our book club and I think it will generate a lot of discussion at our next meeting. I highly recommend it.
I gave up on this book half way through. At first, I thought it was in the ilk of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. However, the poor character development - women falling instantly in love with men who had personality disorders and communication challenges - was just too unbelievable. I also could not stand the reading style. The reader had a good Scottish voice for Ian MacKenzie but the nasal tones for the women really did not work for me.
Sorry about this one but really - relationships need much more depth and exploration if they are to work in such a plot.
There is so much common sense in this audio. I wish I had listened to it 20 years ago. Still never to late...
I recommend this audio - it is easy to listen to and very practical. Definitely worth the cost.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It opened my eyes to the history of media and the profound impact that big business has had on our lives and cultural experiences. Well done.
This is a terrific story, exceptionally well told. I listen on my way home from work, in my car. Made the traffic jams bearable! terrific storyline and great intelligence and wit.
I will listen to more Rumpoles from now on.
I loved this book from the very beginning. It was an intriguing and interesting social commentary on life for women in middle America. The reader is excellent and locked me into the storyline from the outset. I certainly recommend it. Well done.
