I love books! They have always added so much to my world. Between being a busy mom, having a demanding career, and keeping my household running smoothly, I have zero free time to just sit and read a book. Audible allows me to keep up with my reading (or "reading") while I'm working or driving or cooking or cleaning the house. I enjoy that so much - I love Audible!

Before Stephanie can even step foot off Flight 127, Hawaii to Newark, she’s knee deep in trouble. Her dream vacation turned into a nightmare, and she’s flying back to New Jersey solo. Worse still, her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover. Now he’s dead, in a garbage can, waiting for curbside pickup. His killer could be anyone. And a ragtag collection of thugs and psychos, not to mention the FBI, are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying.

What made the experience of listening to Explosive Eighteen the most enjoyable?

I find this book and the Stephanie Plum series to be such a fun listen. It's light and fast paced - the perfect story to keep you laughing while you listen!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I don't think 5 minutes goes by without something pivotal happening - Evanovich sure knows how to get the reader engaged!

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

After listening to all of the audiobooks in this series, Lorelei King IS Stephanie Plum to me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It could only happen to Stephanie Plum. ;-) lol

"I'll never forget that night. It was like a romance novel, an old Broadway musical, and a John Wayne western rolled into one. Out for a quick drink with friends, I wasn't looking to meet anyone, let alone a tall, rugged cowboy who lived on a cattle ranch miles away from my cultured, corporate hometown. But before I knew it, I'd been struck with a lightning bolt... and I was completely powerless to stop it."

Would you listen to The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels - A Love Story again? Why?

Ree Drummond's writing style is so engaging. She is funny and self deprecating which makes her very likeable. Follow her true life story of introduction into her husband's cattle ranching life was fascinating, and their love story is incredibly sweet.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed the tension she builds with the the little cliffhangers along their way to marriage. Even though I knew that they would end up together, she made me feel the real emotional experience of falling in love.

Which character – as performed by Ree Drummond – was your favorite?

Obviously I love Ree, but, through Ree's eyes, it's impossible not to fall in love with Marlboro Man along the way.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I would have if I could have.

    Any additional comments?

For me, it was very important to have the author also narrate the story. It added a lot to the experience for me.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

What did you love best about Fall of Giants?

That I learned so much. I found out what a huge difference there is between knowing about historical events versus being able to understand them in context of human lives. Ken Follett is the master at this!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fall of Giants?

There were so many! I enjoyed Billy Williams courageously standing up for himself when his life was on the line in the court-martial hearing. I was cheering for him!

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brought everything to life - wonderful narration!

Who was the most memorable character of Fall of Giants and why?

I loved so many characters, but Ethel Williams was probably my favorite.

    Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series!

FBI Special agent Brad Raines is facing his toughest case yet. A Denver serial killer has killed four beautiful young women, leaving a bridal veil at each crime scene, and he's picking up his pace. Unable to crack the case, Raines appeals for help from a most unusual source: residents of the Center for Wellbeing and Intelligence, a private psychiatric institution for mentally ill individuals whose are extraordinarily gifted.

What would have made The Bride Collector better?

I don't know - a rewrite or better editing? It didn't make good sense to me and seemed disjointed. I never abandon a book once I start, even the really bad ones get finished. This one was almost a rare exception, I really couldn't stand it by the end.

What was most disappointing about Ted Dekker’s story?

For me the religious overtones and subject matter just didn't click. It came across as artificial and creepy - especially in the last 100 pages.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was fine. It was really the characters' literary voices that I found grating.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Bride Collector?

Honestly, it would be hard for me to know where to begin. The presentation of the protagonist wanting to "save" the (as described) virginal heroine just came across as creepy and unrelateable. If I wanted to read a bad, pulpy romance novel - I would have chosen one of those.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe it just wasn't a good fit for my literary likes? I don't know, but I wouldn't buy anything written by this author again.

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! It is a fascinating story, which also gives amazing insight into a critical time in history. It is so humbling to learn what was endured by our Pacific P.O.W's. The core message that I received from the book is that man's true strength lies in his capacity for endurance and resilience.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved most of the characters, even the awful ones, because they were so believable. The author does such a good job of developing and humanizing her characters - even when they are unimaginably evil people.

What does Edward Herrmann bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love his voice - he added gravitas to the book. Also, his inflection helped me to better understand some of the Japanese terms that I might have struggled with in reading the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have listened to it all in one sitting, although it was a bit too long for that to be practical. I listened to it all over a few days while doing housework, etc. It was excellent and I definitely got a lot more done just to have an excuse to listen a bit longer each time.

    Any additional comments?

I am very moved and inspired by this book. I learned so much that I did not already know about the Pacific War. Also, it reminded me that humans can be so resilient and have such a capacity to endure the unendurable, process the effects, and then seek happiness in whatever new form it takes. It is quite a life affirming message in the midst of a horrific history of the Pacific P.O.W.'s experiences.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

What did you love best about 11-22-63?

The protagonist, Jake, is wonderfully real, good hearted, and relatable. The world of 1958 & forward is so brilliantly detailed! I can't wait to re-read so that I can be there all over again! (Oh, except for maybe the Derry part which is SCARY!!) ;-)

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love the character of Jake because the reader gets to experience this amazing world along with him. He feels like an old friend by the time his (and the reader's) journey is over. I also loved the characters of Sadie, Al, and Deke.

What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?

He does great voices for the marginal characters, but his portrayal of Jake helps a lot to make that character even more human and relateable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This story evoked both a lot of laughter and a lot of tears from me. I haven't loved a new book this much in a long long time!

    Any additional comments?

This book is fascinating, beautiful, and heartbreaking. It's a masterpiece!

Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

If you haven't read the book, it's a better story than the original movie (although the movie is great for what it is). If you have read the book and want to know if it's a good listen - it IS! The book has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid - the story scared me a lot then. Having the chance to revisit an old friend in this exciting format has been such a treat - and the story still scares me a lot now!

Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable.
