"Great take on the Vampire/Werewolf Genera"
I can't wait for the next book. A fun easy book with a great ending.
"A fitting tribute to a great author."
First, I would like to thank Thom for taking on the daunting task of completing the final novel of another author. I do not believe anyone could have done a better job. Although not the same as the first two books, Survivors is a fine story and a fitting tribute to the late Z.A. Recht. I therefore highly recommend Survivors to all Z.A. fans but understand that this novel was ghost written by another author.
Oliver is a narrating genius. He is capable of so many different and unique voices which really brings the story to life.
"A must listen to book for all zombie fans."
This book was written in the tradition of two of the greatest Zombie authors; ZA Recht and J.L. Bourne. Not to mention a good portion of the book takes place in my
This book incorporates the best traits of both the Day by Day Armageddon and the Morning Star Strain books.
"A Great Author + An Incredible Narrator"
yields an awesome story. It seems that anything Oliver Wyman narrates turns to gold, and MHI is no exception. This and the second book are truly gems within the Monster/Supernatural/Shoot-em-Up genre. Mr. Correia does an excellent job developing the characters (including the bad guys), creating vivid and accurate settings all while keeping the listener on the edge of the proverbial seat.
"Great story, Aweful Narration"
Although somewhat dated, John Cambell's sci-fi is still some of the best. That being said, the narrator does not do justice to this story. With multiple interacting characters, you must have a narrator with the ability to utilize different voices (aka Oliver Wyman). I often found myself lost as to who was speaking and to whom they were talking. Very confusing.
"Another excellent adventure"
In my humble opinion, this is the best adventure since Hurricane Punch. There were several moments where I actually laughed out-loud (something a book rarely offers). I really enjoyed the multiple threads and revisiting with some of my favorite characters from previous books. And a couple of excellent and unexpected twists make for an excellent Serge and Coleman installment. Thanks Tim and Oliver. I look forward to the next adventure.
"A new twist to a great tale."
JL Bourne presents us with a realistic zombie tale (if there can be such thing as a realistic zombie tale) told from a unique perspective; excerpts from a survivors diary. This is such a fresh twist to the standard narrative coupled with a excellent edge-of-your-seat zombie story.
"This book will really make you think."
Can it really happen? Watch Future Weapon if you doubt the reality of an EMP. Will it happen? Lets hope that the idea of an EMP attack remains fiction. I do not believe (see the recent East Coast of the US power outage) that the events portrayed in this work of fiction are exaggerated. Be it an EMP attack, large scale natural disaster, pandemic, etc. the outcome is well portrayed by Mr. Forstchen. Political views aside, give this book a read.
"If you like Carl Hiaasen..."
...then you are going to like Star Island. I am very happy to see a few old friends on this new tale. I can't help chuckle at the timing of the release of Star Island coinciding with Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton's new troubles.
"A definate departure"
Given that this is the ninth book in MJD's Undead series, a new focus was indeed needed. This path, however was somewhat darker than I would have ever expected (hence the 4 stars). I appreciate being surprised, however I do hope that the next few books address this books ending in a more positive manor.
If you have read/listened to this series from the beginning, I highly recommend you read Undead and Unfinished as I am sure the next book will be more difficult without this key piece of the puzzle.
