Lieutenant Commander Matthew Reddy, along with the men and women of the USS Walker, have chosen sides in a war not of their making. They have allied with the Lemurians - a mammalian race whose peaceful existence is under attack from the warlike, reptilian Grik. The Lemurians are vastly outnumbered and ignorant of warfare, and even the guns and technology of Walker cannot turn the tide of battle.

When I looked at reviews of this book 95% were from guys and rated very high, so I got them for my husband and he loved them as well. When I got around to giving these a try I was not dissappointed. Initially (while in our dimension) they were a little heavy on the military jargon, but once I got past that and they got through the squall, it was great. There is a lot of fighting, but this book wasn't just "guns ablazin'" over MY head military mumbo jumbo I didn't get. I could not wait to find out what happened next. I'm on #3 now and still into it.

The narrator had a very pleasant voice, so pleasant it almost put me to sleep. The story could have been good, indeed I thought it would be, but the author had a tendency to drone on and on about the philosophies of different factions in the book. A real snoozer, and it could have been quite exciting.

They are easy listening and great fun. My husband just loves them and I hear him laughing out loud at them, and I do too. James Marsters does a great job with the narration. We've already downloaded all of his books and will be getting the rest as they come.

I like this story though there were several times the author got a little list happy, to the point I though OMG enough with the lists. I really liked Paul Hecht's voice. It is very pleasing and easy to listen to, however, I didn't like his interpretation of the cadence or flow of the narrative at times. It just seemed a little off and took me most of the book to get used to. I would have given 2 stars for performance his voice hadn't had such a pleasant timbre.
