"Kept me listening, but that's about it."
The events in the story were not amazing or inspiring - just one mans story about his trip. I laughed a few times and listened to the entire book, but I wouldn't recommend it or listen to it again.
You can't change his experience - there just wasn't very much to maintain my interest. I kept listening hoping something amazing would happen...
This is the first of his books I've listened to.
No, not really.
"Teddy and his explorer spirit!"
I enjoyed listening to Teddy's adventurous spirit and tales of near death experiences - for EVERYONE in his party! I think he was an amazing man that snatched life up and lived it to it's fullest every day! This story has so many interesting events that will keep you listening, it did for me! Some people might find it a bit slow and repetitive, but he accomplished something truly amazing here and knowing just how dangerous and deadly this adventure was is imperative.
Hmmm, maybe Into Thin Air - both have elements of near death experiences, adventure, and perseverance.
No, I haven't.
No, not really. I did enjoy going back to it each time though.
"I do LOVE this book!!"
Dean inspired me to make the move to ultrarunning! I had been a runner and completed many races including marathons, but until I read this I did not think I was capable of running more than 26.2 miles in one shot. I have done this several times now and have my first 50 mile race in a few months. Dean is a very down to earth guy (I have met him) that tells his story of running and life. He is modest and simply wants everyone to know the joys of running and the benefits it can bring. SO inspiring!!!!
I have listened to this book more times than I can count, all while training. When you run for four or five hours at a time, it's easy to listen to this book many times over.
Dean's approach to running and his ability to inspire all those around him.
I have read the book and I don't know that James does bring anything unique to the story.
It made me run 31 miles through the woods - jumping logs, running through streams, slopping in the mud, and dancing on rocks the whole way!
Get this and get outside!
"Listening to Rich can be boring, but..."
I enjoyed listening to his story and the changes he made in his life; specifically going to a vegan diet and finding how it benefits his performance as an athlete. I am an ultra runner who is a vegetarian and moving towards vegan each day.
I don't want to give away my most memorable moment, might spoil it....
His expression is very flat! It was distracting at times and I had to really ignore his voice and listen to the story he was telling. I have listened to it twice, so it must not have been too awfully bad though!
I don't think so.
"Listen to it over and over! AMAZING story!!!!"
Yes, I enjoyed listening to it more than ready it.
I cannot think of a comparable story, this is one of a kind for sure!
He has a great voice and took me in with his reading.
Pushed to the edge, but never BROKEN!
Never before have I heard such an amazing story. Louis Z is a hero of perseverance and triumph. I would love to meet him and be in his presence for just a moment. TRULY inspiring!!!!!
