Bobby Dollar is an angel - a real one. He knows a lot about sin, and not just in his professional capacity as an advocate for souls caught between Heaven and Hell. Bobby’s wrestling with a few deadly sins of his own - pride, anger, even lust. But his problems aren’t all his fault. Bobby can’t entirely trust his heavenly superiors, and he’s not too sure about any of his fellow earthbound angels either, especially the new kid that Heaven has dropped into their midst, a trainee angel who asks too many questions.

Tad Williams has written better. Whether or not fair, in this genre his work unfortunately pales compared to Jim Butcher / The Dresden Files.

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cold Days?

    Tons of them.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

James Marsters is back - what a relief after Book 13!

    Any additional comments?

Hard to believe, but the author keeps raising the bar - best one yet.

When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good voicing for the story - he adds a harshness to Sandman Slim that suits the character.

    Any additional comments?

Gritty anti-hero; good but not great.

The young peasant woman Kamala has proven strong and determined enough to claim the most powerful Magister sorcery for herself-but now the Magisters hunt her for killing one of their own. Her only hope of survival lies in the northern Protectorates, where spells are warped by a curse called the Wrath that even the Magisters fear. Originally intended to protect the lands of men from creatures known only as souleaters, the Wrath appears to be weakening-and the threat of this ancient enemy is once more falling across the land.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The reader was fine - the books just weren't that good. I'm usually receptive to feminist issues, but they were overplayed and the books lacked enough else to support their weight.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The reader was fine. However, given the overplaying of feminist issues in the books overall, the choice of a femal narrator only exacerbated the problem.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment.

    Any additional comments?

Wish I had stuck with the author's prior books...

Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?

Marsters is a good narrator, but his style as Dresden takes a while to get used to - it sounds rushed at first, but grows on you.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The series starts out more flip; gets more substantial and is worth investing in.
