This of course is a well reviewed book and loved by many. But this wonderful book suffers at the voice of the narrator of the audiobook itself. I suggest anyone who has an interest listen to the sample as the entire book is read just like this. As the listener of 80 plus audiobooks in the past year and a half, I understand what a good narrator means to a book. And the narrator here, who uses a flat almost monotone voice does a great disservice to this powerful book. The writing was great. That said I had to literally force myself to pay attention, keep going and finish because the narrator might as well as have been reading a grocery list. Great book, poor vocal talent choice.

I read thru the reviews for both the book online and the audiobook here. I am so glad I chose to listen b/c The Help is one of the most wonderful engrossing books I have ever listened to. It has true life villans and if you're from the South you will recognize many of the women in the book from your own experience. I raced thru it b/c it was so good, now I am sad it's over. It's not very often you come across a book that you HAVE to listen to every spare second. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see more of Stockett's work in the future. Read The Help.

I picked this book because it was narrated by my favorite, Humphrey Bower. And as always, he does not disappoint. This story, set in Australia, tells the story of two branches of the McAllister family. The main character whom the story unfolds around is Jim, who is a youngster when the story begins. We see him thru to adulthood. Kerry McGinnis gives us wonderful visuals of the outback and the inhabitants who live on a working stock farm/station there. I would recommend this book. It is not a fast paced thriller that burns up the pages with action but is a wonderfully layered story of a family who learns to live with tragedy and each other's quirks!

I enjoyed The Dollmaker, however it could have been a much better book. The plot and setting were intriguing but the author let me down a little with the handling of certain events and certain side characters. Also, the narrator mispronounced many Louisiana/New Orleans place names. I was glad to have read it but would not necessarily recommend it to others.

Narrated by one brother who suffered brain injury during a childhood illness, this story begins a few years before WWII and through the early post-service years of the other brother. Typical small town characters with small town gossip, secrets and family love. This is a quick listen with some beautiful and sometimes funny insights looking back on those days as illustrated by someone who is referred to as "simple-minded".
