Hannibal Lecter emerges from the nightmare of the Eastern Front, a boy in the snow, mute, with a chain around his neck. He seems utterly alone, but he has brought his demons with him. Hannibal's uncle, a noted painter, finds him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France, where Hannibal will live with his uncle and his uncle's beautiful and exotic wife, Lady Murasaki.

I enjoyed the book but I felt that Mr. Harris was only writing it for the publisher. The book was released 2 months before the movie. It does answer a lot of the questions as to why he is "other".

I found the story riviting, it kept me on the edge of my seat, and made my commute time fly. I was distracted by the background music and felt it unnessasary. I highly recommend this story for anyone that enjoys a good action adventure.
