It is the fall of 1951 at Mount St. Gabriels, an all-girls school tucked away in the mountains of North Carolina. Tildy Stratton, the undisputed queen bee of her class, befriends Chloe Starnes, a new student recently orphaned by the untimely and mysterious death of her mother. Their friendship fills a void for both girls but also sets in motion a chain of events that will profoundly affect the course of many lives, including the girls' young teacher and the school's matriarch.

I generally enjoy Gail Godwin's work. However, in this case, while the recording is fine, the work itself is too repetitive - several lines of dialog are repeated verbatim in multiple scenes. I cannot recommend this title.

In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Beam Piper's 1962 sci-fi classic Little Fuzzy, written with the full cooperation of the Piper Estate, Jack Holloway works alone for reasons he doesnt care to talk about. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

This story is good, interesting, and well read - with the exception of the obtrusive "he said" "she said" after many lines of rapid fire dialog. However, it is a fundamentally new take on a very loose framework of the original. The character of key characters and of the fuzzy creatures themselves is changed. It is an entirely different story.
