Human beings have been battling one another since time immemorial. But why war and terrorism? Why are men almost always the killers, and why are war and sex so inextricably linked? Why do we kill members of our own species intentionally, when few other animals do so?

The way to Peace is right in front of us, if we would only think. At the crux is women's ability to choose when and how many children she should have. This should be on every Congressman, Politician, Religious Leader's list. Actually everyone would benefit by this thoughtful presentation.

Specialist in the scam, the con, and the rip-off, Jerry Manelli is running around New York hot on the trail of a priest: a thousand-year-old, two-foot-tall, ugly, misshapen, dancing Aztec priest made of solid gold, with eyes of pure emeralds, worth a million dollars. Somebody stole it from its museum home in South America and smuggled it through U.S. Customs in a shipment of plastic imitations. But the wrong one got delivered, and the million dollar statue, mixed with the fifteen copies, is somewhere in New York.

    Story

I listen while walking the dogs, or vacuuming, or doing other household/yard work tasks.
I could not keep the multiple characters straight without REAL concentration... which of course, I did not have. The characters are listed in the beginning but I could not reference that chapter each time I questioned, who was that?

Luckily, I have listened to many Westlake stories and love him as an author.
If this had been my first, there would not have been a second.
But since I do so enjoy the Dortmunder series, I will keep up with the goal of listening to all his novels.

Serge and sidekick Coleman head out west to take on Hollywood bigwigs and L.A. lowlifes in Dorsey's most outrageous novel yet. Before Tinseltown knows what's hit it, Serge has made an unforgettable foray to the Playboy Mansion and come up against Japanese Yakuza and a host of wacky characters.

I've been plugging away hoping and hoping, as in a bad movie, the story will finally gel and grip me....
I do not understand what is going on and think it may have been decipherable
    in print...
Still slogging away, making it a real challenge to follow on daily walks.
Can't wait to finish or maybe just give up and gone on to the next novel!

In 1919, Delano, Georgia, appoints its first chief of police. Honest and hardworking, the new chief is puzzled when young men start to disappear. But his investigation is ended by the fatal blast from a shotgun. Delano's second chief-of-police is no hero, yet he is also disturbed by what he sees in the missing-persons bulletins. In 1969, when Delano's third chief takes over, the unsolved disappearances still haunt the police files.

I learned about the foibles of man and the overreaching proud men who allowed something awful to go on in their town for years, while doing despicable things themselves.

Had to keep listening though I had finished walking my dogs!

I will look for more of Stuart Woods. Thank you.

Everything starts somewhere. For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington. Reacher is ordered undercover - to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control. Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice - and an appetite for secrets.

As a Jack Reacher fan, I was excited to download and listen to "the Affair" while walking my dogs.... but the reader did such an annoying job of trying to be all the characters, with fake accents and high timbered voices, that I wished he had just READ the book! I kept losing interest because of the sometimes overdone, sometimes missing accents... BUT the Second Son was much better (not so many women's voices) and I thoroughly enjoyed that story.

Diverse, provocative, eerie, and inspired, this collection of Jeffery Deaver's best stories exhibits the amazing range and signature plot twists that have earned him the title "master of ticking-bomb suspense" by People. With nods to O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe, these beautifully crafted pieces pulse with subtle intrigue and Deaver's incomparable imagination.
