This was a book I purchased because I liked his first book NIGHT. This is nothing like NIGHT - has a different character - the story line is OK - but not what NIGHT was.... It's a short read - and George Guidall is spectacular as always..
I love Wally Lamb's writing - it's dark and deep. He explores areas of the human condition that we would rather not talk about or think about - from mental illness to incest. Every family has it's problems - and Wally Lamb does an excellent job at bringing you into the inner circle of these families. I likes the narration also - usually I do not like too many narrators in one story - but all of these people bring to the book a different quality - I have also found that authors are not the best narrators - but Mr. Lamb has proven me wrong - I like his voice.
Ending was awesome
When men were men!
A hard to believe true story of true Endurance. The name of the ship sums up the never say die attitude of the men - and how they made it through a grueling 2 years of survival in a very inhospitable place. Would be interesting to know how they men fared in their later years and what the captain did after this voyage.
The story is told from the diaries the men kept - so it is very detailed - day by day events. Which sometimes got boring - and had me wishing they would fast forward through some of it - but it was worth finishing... Ending was awesome.
Beginning was slow
He is an OK reader - not someone I would seek out for other books.
One could be written - but I would not seek it out.
It was an OK book - nothing to send chills up my spine and it was VERY slow in the beginning. The middle to end part was the best part of the book. Glad I stuck with it - but would never make my MUST READ list for others.
Bryce has become one of my favorite authors and have listened to many of his books. I still feel that The Power of One is his best - but this one is close. Great story line with some laugh out loud moments - especially with Mole's mother Nancy. And of course the narrator is marvelous - his flawless performance of the accents of the different characters really makes the performance an A+.
It starts a bit slowly - but like a race car it quickly steps up the pace chapter by chapter. By the end you are racing with emotion. You almost feel like Enzo - you want to SCREAM at the "twins" but can't.
A Dog's Purpose - as it is told from the dogs perspective
The way he expresses his (Enzo's) emotions is phenomenal. One of the better narrations I have experienced.
While this book was very slow in the first part - it picked up with the telling of the "fairy tale" . I liked the narrator and her accent - it kept even the slow parts bearable.. I think if I were reading this I would have quit in the first 1/2 of the book.
The Fairy Tale
Susan Erickson did a great job
I was not sure what this was about when I purchased it - but so glad I did... It is a little Harry Potterish - with the Magical Circus - and the characters are very well developed. I was hooked from early on never wanted to shut down the recording. Can't wait for her next book..
I bought this book because I enjoyed his first book NIGHT so much. This is not an extension of it. It is another character and has a fictional twist to it. It was OK - but would not listen to it again - as I would NIGHT.
This was a cute - fun read - Zippy is a very unique girl and comes from a unique family. The short stories that tell her life are funny and you can imagine them happening to you. Can't wait to hear the other book from Haven.
