First published in English under the title The Accident, Elie Wiesel's third novel in his trilogy of Holocaust literature has now adopted Wiesel's original title: Day. In the opening scene, a Holocaust survivor and successful journalist steps off a curb in New York City directly into the pathway of an oncoming cab. As he struggles between life and death, the journalist recalls the effects of the historical tragedy of the Holocaust on himself and his family.

I bought this book because I enjoyed his first book NIGHT so much. This is not an extension of it. It is another character and has a fictional twist to it. It was OK - but would not listen to it again - as I would NIGHT.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Lora says: "Enzo (because he's so wize) for president."

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It starts a bit slowly - but like a race car it quickly steps up the pace chapter by chapter. By the end you are racing with emotion. You almost feel like Enzo - you want to SCREAM at the "twins" but can't.

What other book might you compare The Art of Racing in the Rain to and why?

A Dog's Purpose - as it is told from the dogs perspective

What does Christopher Evan Welch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The way he expresses his (Enzo's) emotions is phenomenal. One of the better narrations I have experienced.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard: the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father fails ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters

While this book was very slow in the first part - it picked up with the telling of the "fairy tale" . I liked the narrator and her accent - it kept even the slow parts bearable.. I think if I were reading this I would have quit in the first 1/2 of the book.

What did you like best about this story?

    The Fairy Tale

    Any additional comments?

Susan Erickson did a great job

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

I was not sure what this was about when I purchased it - but so glad I did... It is a little Harry Potterish - with the Magical Circus - and the characters are very well developed. I was hooked from early on never wanted to shut down the recording. Can't wait for her next book..

This was a book I purchased because I liked his first book NIGHT. This is nothing like NIGHT - has a different character - the story line is OK - but not what NIGHT was.... It's a short read - and George Guidall is spectacular as always..

When Haven Kimmel was born in 1965, Mooreland, Indiana, was a sleepy little hamlet of 300 people. Nicknamed "Zippy" for the way she would bolt around the house, this small girl was possessed of big eyes and even bigger ears. In this witty and lovingly told memoir, Kimmel takes readers back to a time when small-town America was caught in the amber of the innocent postwar period - people helped their neighbors, went to church on Sunday, and kept barnyard animals in their backyards.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

The narrator was very good - She brought out the right emotions - anger, humor and sadness.

I would agree with the other reviewers - if you liked the Harry Potter series you will like these books - yes at times predictable - but so are a lot of other books I have read. It moves at a fast pace and very imaginative - like the Potter series - which keeps it very interesting..

Why we think it’s a great listen: For 20 years, John Irving believed that his ambitious novel could never be adequately executed in audio – and then he met narrator Joe Barrett.... In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys - best friends - are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument.

Let me first state that I am a huge fan of John Irving. His books can be quirky and they are not for everyone. Hence maybe the few 1 star reviews. Joe Barrett does a wonderful job at the voices of Owen and the other characters in the book.

Owen is a special boy - and John Irving gives him the role of being very deep and meaningful while being a simple - very literal - honest little boy.

It was a very long book - but I hated to see it end!

    One of my favorites...

Loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - this is a continuation of that book. Book starts very strong - but starts to lag a bit 2/3 of the way through. But - stay with it - the ending is GREAT! The last 2 hours of the book were intense and a heart pounding read. Can't wait for the next one.
