"an emotional tug"
While I did, in the end, enjoy this book at times it felt like the author was putting me through emotional extortion. He is tricky in his use of wording, so as to keep the reader constantly guessing where the end of the plot is going. He wrings every drop possible out of you and, at times it is annoying. The main part of the book is a very enjoyable love story. So, if you are up for an emotional roller coaster, go for it! The character development and setting are great. The narrator is very good. I'll look for him again in the future. Finally, I can't imagine anyone doing justice to this story in an abridged version. So, if you do listen to it, enjoy the long version.
"Tastey Morsel"
I had resigned myself to having to be patient with this narrator after reading previous reviews. I had credits to burn and didn't want to drop cash on a hardbound book. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised. Granted, some of her pronunciations are a bit different, and I agree that Merry should speak with an American accent.
I have always loved this series and wasn't disappointed in this new installment (it ISN'T the last book-check the author's blog). Lots of plot, a few tasty erotic moments, and great character development made for a fast paced read. If you're still enjoying this series, this will not disappoint. Tasty morsel!
"A disappointment"
After enjoying the first two books in the Raintree series I was really
looking forward to this book. It would hopefully bring all of the
characters together for the final showdown. The story had lots of
potential but, it just didn't live up to it. While the narration was
good again, the hero and heroine just lacked chemistry. When they
finally do come together sexually it is a forceful, brutal, and
antagonist. I cringed at some of the wording used; it seemed like more
of a rape than intense passion. Additionally, Mercy's brothers are
hardly in this novel even though the reader is left hanging at the ends
of novels one and two. I must admit that I finished the book. I had to
find out what happened but, I am disappointed that this series'
potential just wasn't fully realized. If written by one of the two
previous authors, I think this could have been superbly delicious. Also,
the child Eve could be way too annoying at times and, was used too
heavily as a means to bring her parent's romance along. I'd rather see
this done through good development of the characters so that it really
works for the reader. Finally, the graphic violence of the final battle
was over the top at times for my taste; a trend a really don't like
seeing in my chic novels.
"an entertaining fluff read"
This had good narration and likable characters. It makes for a nice summer chic fluff read. My only complaint is that it went by so quick.
