Although I hate to criticize authors, I noticed that I kept wondering if the author would please come to the point... many times! I appreciate all of the research done for this book, and it was an interesting story, but

When you feel the need for something light...... true, I did find myself thinking, Am I really listening to this, but it was just what I needed at the time. Let it roll over you....... and then move on to more serious listening.
This book does give (lots) of background info to the start of the war....... But the narrator needs a lesson on pronunciation...... Some of the words made me cringe..
but it just turned out WEIRD!
This was the worst! The story is trite, the writing is third rate and the narrator's voice is annoying. I'm really forcing myself to finish this book. Don't waist your credit...
This didn't live up to expectations. Shreve is capable of much better. The characters aren't well developed, and the story within a story doesn't work well. Don't waste your book credit.
This left me cold. I should have followed another's advice and listened to the unabridged version of this classic. I fear in cutting out so much of Dickens' work, the story line and flow suffered.
I've only heard 4 hours so far, and I'm sure that at least one hour is the word f**k or some derivitive! The sex is already legendary,but the gross scatalogical humor...Can this really be current campus life? I'm keeping at it so that I'll know what to expect when my 12 year old daughter goes off to college.
I never really got into this book, and I think it was because of the narrator. From the beginning, I had a negative reaction to his voice. This has never happened to me before, and I have listened to many books. Also, while the research was thorough, the plot and characters were thin...
