Maxine Tarnow is running a nice little fraud investigation business on the Upper West Side, chasing down different kinds of small-scale con artists. She used to be legally certified but her license got pulled a while back, which has actually turned out to be a blessing because now she can follow her own code of ethics - carry a Beretta, do business with sleazebags, hack into people's bank accounts - without having too much guilt about any of it. Otherwise, just your average working mom - two boys in elementary school, an off-and-on situation with her sort of semi-ex-husband Horst - till Maxine starts looking into the finances of a computer-security firm....

Most of the audiobooks are really well done. The narrator for this book, however, doesn't match up with the story all. She seems more interested in making sure she pronounces the words than to read the stories effectively. Plus, the main character is fairly young and hip; however, the narrator sounds old. Her voice is not a match for the characters at all. I was really looking forward to this, so I am really disappointed.

When a casino robbery in Atlantic City goes horribly awry, the man who orchestrated it is obliged to call in a favor from someone who's occasionally called Jack. While it's doubtful that anyone knows his actual name or anything at all about his true identity, or even if he's still alive, he's in his mid-30s and lives completely off the grid, a criminal's criminal who does entirely as he pleases and is almost impossible to get in touch with.

Where does Ghostman rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was engrossed from beginning to end, although it would have been nice to have a good guy or two sprinkled into the plot.

Would you recommend Ghostman to your friends? Why or why not?

Sure - if they like dark books about criminals.

What does Jake Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jake does a superior job of really making you feel like you are in the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No.
