Angels and Demons is really well worth your time. Its an excellent book, great plot, and the narrator is just fabulous. He manages to play the roles for so many people so well. Sometimes its hard to get into a story when you are listening rather than reading, but this one, you will love!
I cannot believe I spent money buying this book!??!!!
It seems to be written by the dark Lord himself (from either the Lord of the rings or Harry Potter) trying to create his army of equally dark, imbecile people. What he talks about in the book not only goes against all your moral ethics and beliefs but it is just so instrinsically wrong, that even if a person uses them and finds some success h/she will never finding lasting happiness. He teaches people to be "coquettish", "contradictory", "Send mixed signals", "dandy", and "believe in your own lies"....????
He even refers to the people you intend to seduce as "Victims"! Is he enrolling Vampires? I have never been so utterly disappointed in any book or in myself for having bought it. Your seductions did not work here.
I really dont know what I can say that other people have not already said about this book. But this book moved me so much that I could not bring myself not to write even a word about it.
Through this book I got a chance to live through Hitler's Germany and the atrocities and uncertainties of a war inflicted world, and all this through the eys of an innocent little girl less than 14years old.
I cried and I laughed. This is what writing is all about. Anything that can move a human soul so deeply as this book does, deserves a mention. I am just surprised this one missed the bestseller list!
And oh a word about the narrator: Allan Corduner. Phenomenal Job! He made the book come alive, it was like watching a movie rather than listening to a book. It was so unobtrusive that I almost failed to notice the narrator or even the fact that I was hearing; not listening or seeing.
If you like a good book, that you will remember for years, then this one should be your next pick.
This is a very special book. I learned so much about China in the 1900's and the plight of women, and how simple yet difficult life was then. Its also very Poignant in how it portrays the relationship between the two sisters who lose all the comforts as well as their parents and family home and run to California to suffer more hardship and disgrace. While battling their own insecurities, fears and jealousies, they lose everything but the love for each other. SIGH! This is a beautiful gift for your sister or best friend. Like most of Lisa See's novels, this is a classic.
Almost everyone has talked so highly about this book. And I am here to say, "They are absolutely right". This is a great book about a little boy who grows up in some rather abnormal circumstances. Its funny, sad, creepy, mystical and comes with some great pieces of insight. I do want to add that Neil Geiman is clearly not just a great writer but an excellent narrator as well. The book has so many characters it would be so hard to listen if it were not for the narrator, who just magically transforms his voice to suit the character. Buy this book, if you have a taste for genius!
