"A true Gem (no La)"
This is the best Stephen King I have ever read/listened and it is one of the best Audible's on my long listen list - right up at the top with The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. And the harmony between the two novels is quite intriguing. They both have main characters that are disfigured. They both are wrapped in the wings of time and its frailty. But most of all they are both wholly immersed in the dedication of one person for another.
While the Kennedy shooting is the framework of the book, it is not it's heart. Throughout while listening I kept saying to myself .... but what happens if he is not killed. I was not disappointed by King's presentation. I actually just sat listening to the last two or more hours doing nothing else because I could not - as one would say for a paper book - put it down. And much like the main character, in the end, the last hour at least, I cried ... and cried .... and cried.
Great job Mr. King. And George/Jake and Sadie ... may you waltz on forever!
"confusing and disappointing"
very disappointed with the voices in 4th and 5th books. it was very hard to tell who was speaking because all male voices were the same (brusky irish accents) and all of the females sounded like celtic crones!
I don't think Mr. Martin has any idea at all where he is going with his characters. And his narrative is extremely repetitive, as though he needs to fill in the details about a character or a place or a happening every single time it is mentioned simply to lengthen the book. We read the previous books dude, and we remember this stuff even if you don't. And the graphic detail has gotten far beyond what is necessary in a good novel.I loved the first 4 books. Three quarters through this one my disappointment began. Not sure if I will even bother to look for a next book, if there is one now that Mr. Martin is so wrapped up in the HBO production. This has ended as a simple ho-hum. Now on to one of the MANY - yes, many other great series here on audible (thank you audible!) - Stieg Larson, Stephen King, Peter F. Hamilton, Daniel Suarez, and a little WIlliam Shatner every so often for comic relief.
